White Label NVME 0x08 Critical Error

Bought this NVMe 2 years ago and while playing a game my pc went blue screen and erased everrything, i just want to know if there is anything that i can do to fix it, all the data was gathered by smartmontools, im desperate because NVMe prices now are crazy... actually in my country its currently costing 90% of a minimum wage

That SMART report is basically telling you the drive has gone into “protect itself” mode.

Key lines:

• SMART overall-health: FAILED
• media has been placed in read only mode
• Critical Warning: 0x08 (this usually means the drive’s storage/media is no longer reliable)

So the short answer: you probably can’t “fix” it back to normal use, but you can try a couple things.

What you should do now:

1. copy your files off immediately
   If the drive still shows up in Windows/Linux, it being read-only is actually good for saving your data. Copy everything you can.
2. try a secure erase / format (only if you don’t care about the data)
   Sometimes a full NVMe format resets the state, but most of the time it will fail again soon.

On Linux:

• nvme format /dev/nvme0n1 -s1

Or use your motherboard BIOS secure erase tool if it has one.

1. if format doesn’t work, the drive is done
   This isn’t a Windows issue and it’s not drivers. The controller has decided the NAND/media isn’t safe anymore, so it locked writes.

Best option if it’s under warranty: RMA it.
If not, the only “cheap” path is using it as temporary read-only storage until it disappears completely (but don’t trust it for anything important).

This SSD seems definitively to be not a top tier one... I hardly think NVMe can be blamed for that.
The prices are creepy high nowadays.
Even with "server"-NVMe drives, if they are new, the firmware can have quite some bugs, at the consumer level it's way worse if you look at all the Samsung SSD's recently.

If you have luck, you can find a good used pm983 or pm9a3 (SATA: sm863a/pm863a/pm883/pm893/pm897) or even better some ex Intel - Solidigm enterprise u.2 SSD, but insist to get the smart readings (i personally would not get one under 90%...). Be sure to get enough airflow around it and to put the latest firmware on it.
....P4800X 1,5TB or even P5800X 1,6TB sadly don't fly around cheap.
For consumer NVMe, get one from a reputable manufacturer, don't get the newest stuff, matured firmware pays off.

Everyone is pissed off about the memory crisis (my memory upgrade to 8channels -even if i wanted there is no ddr5-rdimm available- is off the table 4ever). Ok... not every one, those who are at the top levels of the three memory-"cartels" couldn't be happier, and scalpers too.

This hardware pricing BS will not last, just like it has never lasted in the past. Cracks are already starting to appear in the AI "story" (case in point: Dell admitting..."consumers do not want an AI PC", Coreweave's stock is already approaching lows of the year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it near it's IPO price...).

This whole AI "bullshit Ponzi" is all about IPOs/stocks/interest rates/finance. The memory suppliers simply want a slice of the pie. The moment one of these AI players wobbles, the whole thing comes crashing down.

It's almost a certainty, the question is how soon. The math simply doesn't add up, and outside of Silicon Valley wide eyed software developers, nobody gives a shit about AI.

None of these players, especially OpenAI actually have the money, or even hopes and dreams of obtaining it, that they are making commitments with. There's an old/famous saying from Topgun...
