I am benchmarking a few SSD's today. One thing that I have noticed on enterprise class SSD drives is that when I disable the cache with hdparm -W 0 is that they get 50-90% better sync write performance at 4kb. I thought the cache was there for help.
I get the same effect with both fio and pg_test_fsync.
Heck, event at 128kb write workloads I get a 10% performance boost.
