1 PetaByte for a few hundred files, what kind of videos would these be?
It would have been easier for me to tell exactly what the project is because it's not new, it's been around for over 2 decades, but I took the time to explain it step by step and avoided overloading it with industry specific jargon. I thought the simpler description would help better, it turns out it's perceived as "keeping it secret".
Dude, everyone in the industry has the choice to specialise in this very old almost unchanged area, but they all runaway from it, no one dares but a handful, one needs to be borderline mad to risk his whole professional life in that area, coz once you do it and you're known for it, you're pigeon-holed for the rest of your life, there is no way out. I look at the current #1 guy in the field and think poor guy, no one would even trust him outside of that niche, not even for a simple task that would be assigned to beginners.
What is encouraging me to step in this direction is this very special madness spend circumstance whatever that means. A personal investment over time that is higher than the budget of the biggest company in the field if they were to renew their hardware.
If I set up mine at a bigger scale, newer hardware, faster, flexible, no inherited corporate non-sense, custom things that work, no standard offering, you know where this is going, right?
That's the only reason I allow myself to be this mad. So please try to put aside the normal thinking I had the luxury to have before this crossed my path.
Absolutely, you're right, but I do not have the choice to stop or slow down, there are circumstances that leave me very little time to decide, so I'm trying to make the least possible mistakes based on your guidance. Especially when I realised the hardware shopping list I prepared over months fell apart* and the whole list had to be rebuilt and ordered within days (less than a week).
*because there is no epyc 9965 cpu cooler in the market for Zen5 based cpus (I was mislead by Silverstone XE360-SP5 product page that turned out max 400TDP)
Definitely, that moment is coming, but not now.
And even then when the time comes, It takes one that:
- I trust
- understands that the standard offering for enterprise is out of the question,
- understands that the way everybody in "my" industry is operating is completely unacceptable, they have constraints that I don't have, so I will not repeat what they're doing,
- is totally independent from any supplier, no partnerships, no "I've got a client I'm sending your way, give me my commission", because I've heard it before with my own ears.
But at this stage it's too early. Not too early through to know who is not the consultant.
