A 1TB hard drive gives less than 1TB usable too though.
Yep, nothing new, just becomes increasingly more frustrating due to the size of the storage devices growing.
Like many people have muttered under their breath for decades, would be amazing if the sold capacity is the actual available capacity.

Surprisingly, but happily, my Macbook Pro with the "1TB" SSD has a formatted capacity of 1TB (999.7GB). Thanks Apple!

Apple like a drive vendors marketing department measures drive capacity in base 10

The 'Metric' Byte has been ongoing for a very long time, not sure why.
Sectors are measured in 512 or 4096 Bytes not 500/4000 so how do Manufacturers get so confused.
Luckily for them we are so stupid and put up with it and we drain our pockets to buy bigger Metric drives.

Are the performance figures they spout on about also in base 10 ?
