I'm looking to buy an E5-1650 v4 and noticed that some sites (here's an example) have 3 part numbers instead of the usual 2:

CM8066002044306S - Tray
BX80660E51650V4 - Box
BX80660E51650V4S - Description says "boxed cache"

I know the difference between "tray" and "box" but what does "boxed cache" mean?

I think it's an order issue with the words.

"Xeon Processor E5-1650 V4 FC-LGA14A 3.60G 15M Boxed Cache"

Probably should be
"Xeon Processor E5-1650 V4 FC-LGA14A 3.60G 15M Cache, Boxed"

I'm not sure about that question now ;)

Might have to do with cooling, or stocked or not? Just guessing here.

Warranty. The 'box' CPUs come with an end-user warranty that is serviced directly by Intel. The 'tray' or OEM part number gets warranty service through your reseller/OEM.

It's the same cpu, the only difference is the new seal.

Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-1650 v4 (15M Cache, 3.60 GHz) Product Specifications
Click on ordering and compliance, scroll down to the pcn numbers. 950795 is the change to BX80660E51650V4S.

(If you want to see the different seals check this change note: http://qdms.intel.com/dm/i.aspx/994D4C97-72FE-4910-ADEF-2EE550C27B0F/PCN114570-00.pdf)
Thanks! I saw this PCN previously and what you say totally makes sense but I didn't see any mention of the new part number. Was it buried in the PCN and I missed it?
