Plan is to put them into something like this (actually started another thread asking if anyone had experience with similar adapters):

And then put those into two of these kits:

Ahh, knew about the second part, but have not seen the thread for the m2->u2 adapter:)

I'd be worried about thermals - the schematic does not show whether it would be possible to cool the drives properly.

Assuming a closed case o/c, would be fine probably if it remains open

Edit: Saw the thermal pad reference in the other thread:)

Ok, got mine today. Got no nothing only 3 beeps. Memory Error (!?) ... a little bit of testing ...

Turned out it was the v4 CPU instead - Bios had never been updated. So I installed my only v3 CPU (1620!) - no issues with it, updated to Bios 21 (via 14), reslotted my 2630L v4 ES M0 and my 4 Supermicro HCL Samsung modules and off it went booting ESX :)

Can you expand of this a little bit? What exactly did you get in today? Motherboard? AOC?

I've yet to boot mine up, but went ahead and stuck the 2696V4's in and packed it full of ddr4.. would be a shame to pull it all back out.

Sorry, side tracking your thread ;)
Got a S2600WT2 and associated case yesterday and wanted to provide feedback on the question whether it would run ES level CPUs.
If the Bios is current on yours I don't think you shuld have an issue :)
The comment re Memory was more to point out that Intel (and SuperMicro) sometimes don't report 'smartly' on their Error codes - had that same 'memory error' based on CPU level before on a SM board and it took a while to find the cause.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

Just finished buying memory. Makes me upset every time I push the purchase button these days lol.

A few months ago I was buying brand new kits of 4x 16GB DDR4 2Rx8 PCL-19200 for $330 on Amazon. Current pricing is absurd.

Nice - can't even find a price on those here, not to mention availability
But the Pm953 (Not T) in U.2 1TB is about €440 here so i dont think that the T's would be at your price level, more like 300 or so

The part number off the drive is: MZ1LV960HCJH-000MU

They aren't the fasted NVME drive out there, but I liked them for the PLP and the fact that they were far cheaper than even used 840 EVO sata drives.

Ah nothing to be found with that except a few auctions on Ebay ... for $300+ used;)
Looks like you got a good deal there:)

I'm having a similar issue... I suppose the V4's are coming back out to test.

Flat out will not post... in fact no visual output at all (even while idling along smoothly with no warning lights or beeps. This is now with no cards, one V3 processor, and one stick of mem.

Cover off? The beeps where not so loud and the fans at full power are quite loud. And you might see the error warning led's;)
Memory in the correct slot? (uppermost blue one if front is on the left)

Yes sir. Wondering if I have a dead VGA port. Going to go grab a cheap graphics card and/monitor with a vga input (currently using a VGA to hdmi converter that works fine with my SM SC846)

I had no graphics output while I had the wrong/unsupported CPU mounted either, but you said you use a v3... which one?
IPMI didnt work for me before configuring it unfortunately, but maybe your's does?

At the moment a I've tried 2x & 1x 2696V4's and 4655V3's... neither of which are technically supported I guess.
