Let me know if my math is wrong on this one. "Up to 550TB/ year"
550 TB/year
1.51 TB/day
0.063 TB/hour
0.001 TB/minute
1.74404E-05 TB/second
0.0179 GB/second
18.29 MB/second

If this is true, we now have:
  • Highest Capacity: SSD
  • Highest Workload: SSD
  • Highest Storage Density: SSD
  • Highest Speed: SSD
  • Lowest Power Consumption: SSD
  • Lowest Cost/ Raw GB: HDD
The fact that WD says Up to 550TB without discussing access specification compared to a random 4K write DWPD figure for data center SSDs. Really makes you question the conventional wisdom using hard drives for writes.

perhaps this is to avoid competition with the ultrastar drives? although the Ultrastar He8 appears cheaper than the 8tb wd gold right now...
