I was surprised STEC was not bought out earlier. Cheaper than doing the R&D + NPI for Western Digital.

STEC fell behind. I thought LSI would have bought but they went SandForce.

Not sure I like a manufacturer buying a controller company. Seems like it would be better to just buy best of breed every refresh cycle.

It is all about sTEC's IP and patent portfolio. This is a great strategic buy. Also will cut the umbilical cord from Intel for HGST.

I guess that makes sense. Next is when does WD buy Pure Storage or someone like that.

Well the big fish are looking for smaller guys (cheap) with controller technology and I think that up next is OCZ.
