Starting a thread on this. They are another white labeling company, but seem to be far more... desirable (?) than GoHardDrive. Looks like their drives come with a 2 year warranty.

Purchased two 12TB SATA drives from them with Costco VISA (bumping warranty to 4 years).

Here is an exact link to the drives I bought Refurbished: WP Arsenal 12TB SATA 7200RPM 3.5-Inch DAS Hard Drive - Newegg.com
Here is their website Water Panther Server Drives

Here are what the drives look like:

These physically look like Seagate EXOS X12 drives. The description on their site says they are not NAS drives, but they also look like IronWolf drives. If anyone can confirm one way or the other (maybe you have EXOS 12 or IronWolf to compare to?), let me know! If that regulatory mark (STL004) is accurate, this would confirm EXOS X12 or "Seagate Enterprise Capacity HDD v7".

I'm running badblocks on both of them now to validate health before using as a manual replication of some of my zfs datasets.

The real downside is no serial number in SMART data (all 0s), but the WWN listed in the SMART data does in fact match what is printed on the drive for identification purposes.

I'll post more information later (if it passed badblocks, what benchmarks look like, etc)

===

SMART data looks like this
Code:
$ sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdb

Looks like they just slapped a sticker over the white label Seagates you find on eBay. I can't imagine they're any different.

Hmm maybe? The regulatory marker for skyhawk from google image searching is different though

I got three of these exact drives to connect to my LSI card (via SATA backplane).

Interesting though, and hoping someone can help, I can't run more than one on the SATA backplane. It forces the other to drop. I'm wondering if it's because of the Serial Number being the same?

I was able to connect it to my MOBO SATA though and it read.

Hmm i might try mine on a SES-supported backplane. Right now they are just in a u-nas nsc-400, which does not have an intelligent backplane. No issues so far.

I've got 2 installed and another one coming. Booting UnRaid, they seem to switch back and forth. One will show up as "OOS12000G_00000000" and the other will show up as wwn-0x5000c500xxxxxxxx (With the serial in tact).
Upon reboot, they will switch! The disk that previously had the serial becomes zeros, and the other's serial shows up.
This plays HELL on UnRaid. You have to start a new config and very carefully reassign parity and data drives.
I have observed this behavior on an HP HBA and directly connected to motherboard (non-RAID) SATA ports.

hmm, I think if you forced it to use wwns only (not familiar with unraid other than knowing it exists) you'd be fine. Mine shows in /dev/disk/by-id with the correct wwn that is physically printed on the drive.

I only see one ata-OOS12000G_00000000. This is because the serial numbers are all 0s and it can't have a duplicate symlink. Just use the wwn if there's a way in unraid. This is a complete non-issue with zfs.

The pair of drives passed badblocks after about 160 hours. I put zfs on them as a raid0 (this is just for backups) and getting about 450-600MB/s replicating zfs data over 10gig. Benchmarks probably aren't going to happen... I just want to get my backups going lol.

Sounds super dangerous.

I was thinking this company was just some sort of while label potentially doing something valuable to validate their drives.

Now they sound like those ebay folks who wipe all the smart data and mess with a drive's details, except these have been repackaged and have a fancy (but stupid) name attached to them.

Well, refurbishing is basically (1) wipe the drive (2) scan the drive (3) hide bad blocks if any (4) repackage and sell, right?

During step 3 they'll mess whatever they can mess with the firmware, and maybe rewrite the serial numbers.

Hello old thread, to update a bit, I just got refurbished 12TB drive from water panther (I actually won it in a giveaway, for disclosure sake)

Pretty much the same as andrewbedia's research (still looks like an Exos x18, except...

1) The label sticker now covers the whole side
2) it has a actual serial number in the firmware now, not 0000.
3) based on this thread at great deals, it looks like water panther and serverpartsdeals are the same organization. which is interesting.

I also got 12TB SAS drives with the model name: Arsenal Series DAS. I am not certain the source for these drives since they look exactly (other than label) like the one in OPs pictures but these drives are SAS drives.

I am now in still trying to figure out if the drives are in good state as they were shipped very poorly by a novice seller. Unfortunately, my drives do not have proper smart support; it lacks support for "error counter logging" and "self-test logging". I assume drives have bad firmware; drives don't even display temperature information.

Very interesting; I am going to run badblocks on them to get surface test results.

you can try under truenas core (freebsd based) the command: sg_logs -a /dev/your_disk
It should display lot of details about the drive (something like smart data but for sas disks :))
