Hi Rollo, I got myself in a bit of muddle here, I have quite a few of these T7820s dual CPUs, first one went great and sold (finally got around to selling them)

First time I modded I could not get great connection to the ground point on this board, I did the mod with ground wire tied in under a screw, I thought it would be fine, however when I replaced the normal CPUs with 6259s the system would not boot, I replaced the with normal CPUs and tried the mod again on the basis that I was not connected to ground and the mod did not complete. This time I forced the connection to ground by loading the point with solder. I managed to get a connection, I replaced with old CPUs and modded again, it wrote the lower CPU fine, when I did the second line it said it was done already, said it was 255 already

MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -PXE1610C 60
MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -PXE1610C 62

So know I have system which runs a 6259CL fine in the bottom, but does not run 6259CL in the riser.

Any ideas on this Rollo, Can a get file and forces a write again, somehow I managed to f this up, sorry

many headers there with ground, usb or com port rs232 pin.

if it says it is already 255 this is true.
if it wrote to bad address because bad connection you can only copy all from first to second but not with my cli tool, this is much too complex. need PowerCode and old Dongle ( PX-DNGL-01 or PXDNGL01TOBO1 )

Hi Rollo, just a quick update (hopefully this helps others in the same situation).

I used this command to make sure everything was responding:
MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -scan 20 7F
(basically asks each VRM “Hey, are you there, and what’s your ICC_MAX?”) — it confirmed both controllers (0x60 & 0x62) were already set correctly to FF / 255 A.

After that I reset the BIOS to Factory Settings from within Setup, saved and rebooted, and then went a step further with a full CMOS/NVRAM clear: powered off, unplugged AC, drained the board, pulled the coin-cell battery for about 30 seconds, and re-installed it.

I booted once with the known-good CPUs to let the BIOS rebuild its tables, then shut down and swapped in the 6259 CLs.

That combination of a factory-settings reset plus a full CMOS/NVRAM clear cleared the stale configuration data that was preventing the riser CPU from training. Both CPUs now come up and run perfectly.

So if anyone else runs into the same issue — main socket OK, riser dead even though the VRM mod checks out — try Factory Settings → CMOS/NVRAM clear before swapping CPUs. Worked like a charm for me.

CPUs were actually 8259Cl lol, boy these machines are hard work.

My X11SPM motherboard cannot write to address 21.
D:\MCP2221>MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -MP2955A 20 21
MCP2221a VRM mod utility (build 13.07.2024).

The MCP2221a device is connected.

ReadBlock( Page00,cmdBF,2)=2555

MP2955A found: starting modd

ReadBlock( Page00,cmdEF,1) ICC_MAX=FF

ICC_MAX already 255A - modification skipped.

retry#1
retry#2
retry#3
ReadBlock( Page00,cmdBF,2)=Error

Hello!
I tried flashing Dell P640.

Below is the console output. I installed 8259СL processors. The server won't start (it hums, but the screen is black). Processor 1 is completely cold, processor 2 is warm. Any ideas what this could be?

Code:
C:\MCP2221\MCP2221a_VRM_mod(15072024)>MCP2221a_iccmax_FF.exe -PXE1610C 60
MCP2221a VRM mod utility (build 13.07.2024).

The MCP2221a device is connected.

ReadBlock( Page00,cmdFD,1)=B3

ReadBlock( Page4F,cmd32,2)=1504

PXE1610C found: starting modd

Write ICC_MAX=OK
set nvm_password=OK

do the mod again to see if the setting is persistant.
maybe one CPU is defective, that happens.

edit: you have 2nd Gen. ready BIOS ?

Try a Physical Bios reset with removing the bios battery and returning to factory settings, that helped me out when the riser wasn't seeing the second CPU and refused to boot even though the mod was done.

I ran the program again. One of the addresses reported being flashed, and the second completed flashing again. After that, everything worked! Thank you!
