I get this same error with a Lenovo P920. Booted to bios. Here’s how everything is connected.

i think i see. you have wrong connected to motherboard. do not connect like T7920 in picture above.
I2C header is PJ1100 Pinout:
[1] SCL <- square pad
(2) SDA
(3) Ground
Well would you look at that. It helps when I read the instructions from the top. I must say, it would help if the orientation of the photo of the Lenovo board matched the pinout of the Dell one.

For those curious, the DLL for the mcp2221a is available on Microchip’s site. The SHA2s match, but I replaced the one provided with theirs anyway. I also reversed the program with iLSpy but actually reviewing it is beyond me.

there is "Dell T7920 Motherboard" in big friendly letters in the picture.
