Well that should be no problem then...
Whats your chassis? ie backplane or direct connect cables?

And have you verified the hba firmware?

I have one of those desktop cases that are often used for storage. Fractal Node 804 I believe.
Yep the firmware is latest version (at the time of purchase, which I believe is still current, the card being long EoL), the correct one. I flashed it according to the TrueNAS guide.

I see there are several models of the 9300 line from LSI - actually do I have to stick with LSI or can I buy any brand? - anyway, what are the differences between 9300, 9302, 9305 etc? I can't seem to google any meaningful comparison up.

I tend to use 9305's,I think they are slightly newer than 9300, hopefully less power.

But check cables beforehand, not that these cost more than the card...

The 9305 cost like $300 minimum, that's very ouch.
Also, power consumption seems to be higher per specs on the 9305. The pdf from Broadcom claims 13W nominal on 9300, and 16W on 9305. Weird, consideing the latter in newer.

Really? I never looked closer.

But maybe the 9305's are the 16 and 24 port cards, that would explain the higher power draw.

It's also a matter of cooling. My current card runs hot as hell, but fortunately I found a schematic for 3D printed fan bracket for it. But is there even anything like that for the newer cards? This is not a server case, and there's no such airflow these cards expect...

You NEED active cooling on these in a desktop case or they will not work right, so if you haven't tried that... maybe ?

Well yes, the current 9217 card I have a small fan mounted on, but it worked just fine without it too. But that card also has lower theoretical power consumption too.

This might just be what I'm looking for

You can just get an axial RC car screw put it through the small noctua fan, into the heatsink and be done too.

Also here's a 3008 for <100$

Items in America are no use. I'd have to pay VAT, customs, and double shipping (the global shipping program is a trap, you pay once to ship it to a facility and again to ship it to you).

Btw I guess I should consider all listings from China as fakes, right? I mean there's probably not much sense in making fakes of old hardware, but who knows. I don't trust China one bit.

This is some seriously bizarre shit: after I started scouting Ebay for a new HBA, the VM hasn't shut down since.
I'm still getting it, but WTF?

Mine kept shutting down every few minutes after I updated to latest version. I removed the passthrough nic and used vmxnet3 nic, then everyting is good.
