Hi,

For a project of a non-profit, I need two new VM Hosts (KVM).

Chassis: 1HE / 2HE (> 4 2.5" (or 3.5") Slots), Redundant Power

CPU: Power / Heat is not a primary concern, 1 Socket Systems are preferred, but if yields are better with 2 CPUs, I'm okay with that.

RAM: These hosts don't require an absurd amount of RAM; 96 GB per Host should be sufficient. DDR4 prefered

Networking: Onboard 10G Ethernet AND / OR PCIe x8 Slot.

I have no problem with used/refurbished hardware or building the Server myself. Service etc. is not required.

Budget ~ 2000€ / 2500 US$ (per Server)

Do you have any recommendations for Servers or a Base Plattform to use?

Do you have feedback regarding any of the specs?

Thanks!

Refurb Dell R720 or R730 from eBay? Can easily get the 2x 1gb/2x10gb rndc's from eBay as well. Those are dual socketed but can be run as single.

Take 1U refurb SuperMicro or Dell. SM has pure single socket systems with wide options for networking that built-in in chassis as well as you may use any RAID controller, memory and disks that not really certified with the server but still will work with 99% sure. But Dell is very cool with great firmware and server components reliability.
