Sorry, I dont actually have the second LAN card in my thin client ☹ . I just shared this setting since I though it might be relevant to enabling the M2 PCIe slot functionality in the device itself.

I should mention that a few of these with the J5005 are recently seen on CDW outlet for 99 USD + shipping. If you want a cheap one to mess with, better pull the trigger now.

I got one of the J5005 ones. It was just like my J4105 one, except that it had 3 display ports, rather than the 2 display ports of the J4105.

I am in the market for some ddr4 sodimms for mine, if anyone has some for sale...

what are you planning to run and how much RAM do you need? If it’s Linux and a pair of 16GB DDR4 SODIMMs, they are 99+taxes+shipping on Newegg, and 2x8GB is around that half of that. 32GB SODIMMs will not work.

Hi, long time lurker . Has anyone has measurements of power consumption of Wyse 5070 Extended? , not idle with but with some load.

My idea is to add a 2 port pcie nic and run proxmon/esxi with 2 vm (one pfsense, one debian) .

I was almost decided on odyssey x86j4105 (around 15w at load) and found out about this thin client by accident on ebay, it seems has a better cpu and expansion options for the same price, my only concern is how much higher power consumption has.

Thanks

I have the Wyse Extended version, and I was planning to use it as a very low power backup solution. I knew that there are no sata slots on the board itself so I knew I had to buy a card for one of the M2 slots. Since I already have the sata ssd slot populated I started looking for a card that fits the A + E slot. I got this one from aliexpress:

And surprisingly it worked out of the box and was recognised in ESXi (6.7). I could even pass it throgh to FreeNas which recognies it immediately.

My setup is a bit wierd since I will run FreeNas Virtualized and will attach the hard drives using a Sata to Esata cable + dock, and I am still waiting for a cable which I can route through the internals so that I can close the enclosure, but I am pretty happy since everything worked out of the box.

@cageek this item might also be of interest to you since it will allow you to try a bunch of more cards.

Using that m.2 to sata adapter, to power 2.5 hdd/ssd, is there any way to get sata power from inside the case ? maybe using the AUXCN1 connector from the pice riser?

Or maybe using this type of cable, is it a bad idea?

You could try something like this. Unfortunately most of the solutions for what you and me are trying to achieve are only available in aliexpress so obviously your mileage may vary. I dont mind it because I am using mine for a low power backup box so none of this is critical.

That being said i dont see any issue using the usb cable for power to an external drive. The only concern could be different grounds but thats just a shot in the dark.

I can say for certain that you can only power 2.5 inch drives with the internal circuitry and for everything else you need external power, but I think you know this already.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any other info.

I got the Commell M2-210 and made an adapter out of plastic, so it's up a running in the aux. port location. And the lid even closes.
I had seen that before, but how did you go about actually ordering it? Did you email commell directly or try to go through a distributor? I sent a quote request to their NA distributor but haven't heard back from them.

I went through one of their NA distributors - Global American Inc.: https://globalamericaninc.com/product/commell-m2-210/

I got the quote immediately, but waited about a month for the IOCrest Realtek NIC.

It was $44 for one, shipping extra.

I bought two 8gb ddr4 sodimms. I have tested both of them, and they will work when only one is installed. When I install both, the wyse 5070 won't POST. I tried with one 8gb and one 4gb, and still no POST. It is working well with two 4gb sodimms.
According to dell support assist, there is no bios update.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do?
According to the manual, it supports 4 or 8gb of ram.
I was hoping I could run with 16gb total...

What BIOS version are you on ? No problem here with 2x8GB or 2x16GB
Did you get Dual Rank 2Rx8 260-Pin, SODIMM, non-ECC ?

I posted a list of compatible memory sticks some time ago

I am running bios 1.4.2
The memory is crucial 8gb ddr4-2666 1.2v cl19
CT8G4SFRA266
Not sure if it is dual rank. There are 8 memory chips.
According to amazon, it is single rank :-(
Perhaps that is the issue.

What bios are you running, and how do you update it? I don't see a setting in the bios to update it.

Just sharing my experience with memory install , because I had some problems booting and had the same memory.

I'm at bios version 1.1.3

Total memory 12gb, factory 4GB one and Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 2666 MHz CL19 Laptop Memory CT8G4SFRA266

When I first installed the 8GB memory on sodimm 2 slot it didn't boot

So I swapped them and it did work , so I have the new memory on sodimm 1 slot and the factory 4gb on the sodimm 2 slot .

Clipboard01.jpg

Keep in mind when installing a 8gb memory stick it takes a little longer to POST , wait a little.

I'm planning to buy another CT8G4SFRA266 stick to upgrade to 16gb . I don't plan to upgrade the bios mostly because of this post (I want to upgrade to 32gb in the future):
It appears that my Wyse has lost the ability to work with 32 GB of memory. After BIOS update from 1.1.3 to 1.5.0 display stays blank, power LED is on. If I put 4GB or 8GB of memory, it works well. I can downgrade version 1.5.0 to 1.4.2, but for anything below the message "Bios Blocked due to unsupported downgrade" is displayed.

So for now , I'll be staying on 1.1.3 until someone test the "Supports the new generation memory." 1.8.0 update

I put together all changes between bios versions :

1.8.0 - 02 Nov 2020
- Supports the new generation memory.

1.7.1 - 10 Aug 2020
- Fixed the issue where the option TPM SHA-256 does not function after it is enabled in BIOS.
- Added the Disable Password Jumper option in the BIOS setup menu.

- Firmware updates to address CVE-2020-5362.
- Fixed the issue where the Wake-On-LAN fails after the system resumes from sleep mode and is shut down. This issue occurs on ThinOS and Linux operating system only.

1.5.0 - 20 Feb 2020
- Fixed the issue where the system stops responding after Enhanced Pre-Boot System Diagnostics (ePSA). This issue occurs when the USB Wake support and TPM are disabled in the BIOS setup.
- Supports WiFi 5G feature.

1.4.2 - 18 Dec 2019
- Fixed a BIOS Setup configuration issue that occurs after clearing the CMOS.
- Firmware updates to address security advisory INTEL-SA-00241 (CVE-2019-0169, CVE-2019-11104, CVE-2019-11090, CVE-2019-0168, CVE-2019-11087, CVE-2019-11101, CVE-2019-11106, and CVE-2019-11147).
- Firmware updates to address security advisories INTEL-SA-00260 ( CVE-2019-0154).
- Fixed an issue with preboot TPM detection and error logging.
- Added an enhancement to extend the BIOS password configuration measurements into the TPM.
- Added a new feature to automatically suspend BitLocker before upgrading the firmware. After the firmware upgrade is complete, BitLocker is automatically enabled.

1.3.1 - 17 Oct 2019
- Fixes the issue where the system fails to start and shows a warning message if the keyboard is not attached.
- Firmware updates to address security advisory INTEL-SA-00185 (CVE-2018-12189 CVE-2018-12191 CVE-2018-12199 CVE-2018-12200)

- Supports the Windows IoT October 2018 Update, version 1809.
- Fixed the issue where a warning message is displayed when the Chassis Intrusion feature is enabled.
- Improved BIOS update process.

1.1.3 - 18 Sep 2018
- Fixed a potential system hang issue when an incorrectly formatted password is entered at the BIOS Security Manager (BIOS pre-boot password) prompt.
