Sorry for being a nuisance. My updated WUH721818ALE6L4 works fine with PCGNW870, however on hddguru files I find a PCGNW8C2 from July 2025 (not uploaded by you). Do you @napalm_atx by any chance know whether I could update the drive also to this version or is it only for newer drive revisions? I find it strange that there would be an update after such a long while.

Hello All (especially our expert napalm_atx!)

I have two HUH721010AL4200 drives (Firmware revision J6R2 and J6R5) (IBM Branded)
I am trying to flash LEGNA3S0 on them but I get an error and failure.

Am I correct in assuming this is OEM firmware on it and I can not upgrade it?

New firmware obtained from WDC/HGST/Sandisk after multiple support calls:

P/N: 0B40379

=== START OF INFORMATION SECTION ===
Vendor: WDC
Product: WUSTR1515ASS201
Revision: B969

Firmware B925 has a known early fail issue, resolved by updating to B969.
Advisory: High Grade Dedicated Servers - Upgrading your SSD SAS Western Digital SS530 firmware

Firmware BIN added to my HGST SSD archive: Dropbox

# ls -la *bin
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 2572288 Jul 17 11:35 BPGNB969.bin
searching for newer Firmware than A900

Vendor: WDC
Product: WUSTR1515ASS200
P/N: 0B40378
Revision: A900

only match found, was on DELL site with K968 for WUSTR1515ASS200 drives, but thats no solution right?

I picked up 2 HP labeled HGST SAS drives. hugo was not able to update the firmware. Error is Reason: Device failed to update firmware.

Both drives are HUH721010AL5204. Previously. I was able updated a HGST drive without issue.

HP firmware update tool also failed to update the drives.

Code:
Device Drive 2YG4B2YD (Generic HBA Avago Adapter, SAS3 3008 Fury -StorPort in Slot ATTR_VALUE_SLOT_UNKNOWN) of type 11 failed to flash

Code:
Manuf. Model Serial Interface Capacity Type Firmware
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  1) HGST MB010000JWAYK 2YG4B2YD SAS 10000 GB HDD HPD4
        HGST Firmware: LHHFC38G
  2) HGST MB010000JWAYK 2YHRPT2D SAS 10000 GB HDD HPD6

Hi, Some great advice through this thread. I have combed through but still confused about what exactly is going on with some drives i recently picked up.
I have 5 DellEMC Branded 0F27433 HUH721010AL4205 10TB hard drives according to the sticker. They show up in IDRAC and under Hugo as H5H72101CLAR10T0 with firmware D614 and 2 of the drives are acting strangely. I was unable to find anything through Dell for these drives and attempting to update to the Hitachi LHGNDB01 firmware listed for the HUH721010AL4205 fails. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Since i found this paper, i think it should be a *69 file

https://last-public-ovh-baremetal.snap.mirrors.ovh.net/hardware/SS530/PCN-005196-A01.pdf

or something close to it.
I'm also looking for BPGNA969 for WD Ultrastar SS530 WUSTR6432ASS200. I was able to upgrade to A957 with storcli, but upgrade to B969 fails.
I was wondering, if the file could be modified manually, as we have A/B/C versions of release 957 in napalm_atx's mega folder, as well as B969. There is a block of about 260 bytes difference between the A/B/C files, plus few other single byte differences, which seem to clearly indicate the version. But chatgpt was against trying to modify the B969 file so that it would pass as type A firmware. From what I gathered these differences are outside of CRC or signed areas, but I have no experience in this sort of stuff.
Also compared the Dell K968 file, it's different from B969.

After the copyright notice there are these sequences that contain the version:
Code:
A957 00 10 00 00 74 02 00 00 08 0F 01 01 FF FF FF FF 01 02 03 00 8C 04 CA FF 12 24
B957 00 10 00 00 74 02 00 00 08 0F 02 01 FF FF FF FF 01 02 03 00 8C 04 C9 FF 12 24
C957 00 10 00 00 74 02 00 00 08 0F 00 01 FF FF FF FF 01 02 03 00 8C 04 CB FF 12 24
B969 00 10 00 00 74 02 00 00 08 0F 02 01 FF FF FF FF 01 02 03 00 91 04 C9 FE 12 24
K968 00 10 00 00 74 02 10 00 08 0F 01 01 FF FF FF FF 01 01 03 00 91 04 BA FE 12 24

Just download this https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/s...tes&softwareId=MTX_1bcccb09c3c64b06bb053fcaae and extract HLIBRHsseFD6.rel file, than you can flash this file with hugo
Thank you @napalm_atx! Update works. Just no change from previous version.

Code:
Attempting to update Firmware on 1 Devices...

WARNING: Firmware on device 2YHRPT2D did not change from previous version.

Update successful on 1 devices.
Power cycling of updated devices is recommended.
