Updating Optanes?

Trying to get caught up with the new SSD "Tools" from various providers, and the Intel mess after selling pieces off.


The Intel® Memory and Storage Tool (Intel® MAS) has reached End Of Life (EOL) and no further support, including security patches, will be available. See more details in Announcement: End-of-Life (EOL) for the Intel® Memory and Storage Tool (Intel® MAS) Application.
Due to a vulnerability discovered in the Intel® Memory and Storage Tool (GUI), Intel recommends that users uninstall the tool and seek alternative solutions. The Intel® Memory and Storage Tool (GUI) has been removed from this download page due to this vulnerability.




Looking for ways to update Intel Enterprise\Datacenter Optane and Consumer if that requires different setup.

For my DCPMMs I've been using ipmctl (version 03.00.00.499-2, Linux).

For my Intel SATA SSDs I've been using isdct (version 3.0.27.400-1, Linux).

I just use Intel MAS CLI, currently just on a dedicated machine because it needs a lot of reboots to get the block size format to take, but you could just run it in a container on a production system if you're worried about vulns.

If you want a Windows GUI, Solidigm Storage Tool will update old Intel drives, including Optanes.

Im not sure... My u.2 905p 960GB showed no updates available in the solidigm tool (cli and gui version), but had updates in the "unsafe" intel tool.

Yeah... my hDD\SSD test\update system was Win7 so I replaced it with a Win10 system and thus some of the old-old tools don't work anymore, or dated.. but I did run into similar thing as well.

For me, it was the old intel tool which kept telling me the intel ssd (enterprise\datacenter) had updates, applied updates, rebooted, but the updates never held... after 3 drives I realized it was the software itself. The new intel \ solidgm tool reports all SSD from the old system\tool WERE UPDATED correctly, and firmware is reflecting latest version but that of course didn't work on Win7 and here I am at Win10 and working again at least!
