Taking a look at these EPYC chips; would they work in an HPE DL325 G10?
I just picked up one of these servers with the 7402 but I could get my hands on another one with a much worse CPU for quite a bit less money and then upgrade the CPU if this was possible.

Sent PM. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Usually if a processor works out of the box on a retail m/b it'll work on another.

The retail 7742 has a base clock of 2.25 and a boost of 3.4, however, the QS has the same "all core" speed as retail: 2.25 ghz. Said another way, when all cores are loaded with prime95 the QS has the same speed as retail- 2.25ghz.
This was a little confusing. Does this mean they don't boost, so they only achieve speed parity when all cores are loaded?

Ah thanks for this. I will fix that paragraph. But to answer your question- the QS boost up to 3.2 ghz but retail boost up to 3.4 ghz. All core speed is the same however.

Man, I really want to build a monster machine around one of these CPUs but I don't have the power budget for it :(. What an insane price-to-performance ratio here.

Building a machine like this is going to be the first thing I do when I get solar panels :O

Will put it up soon- had to get another h11 m/b since I made one of these 64 core systems a personal machine.

Board doesn't have enough wattage? or too expensive to run?

I hear you, it's about 17c kw/h which is rather ridicilous but hey it's CA.

With a h11, 3 nvme drives (high performance u.2), 6x fans and a ti-1080ti I get about 95w off the wall idle.

My server idles at 165w and that's with the following:
  • ASRock Rack EPYCD8 motherboard
  • EPYC 7452 (set to a cTDP of 180w)
  • 8 x DDR4-3200 RDIMMs
  • 2 x NVMe M.2 drives
  • 2 x NVMe U.2 drives
  • 3 x GPUs (GTX 1660, GTX 1060, Quadro K4000)
  • LSI 9200-16e

Do you have any boards you'd recommend for the 64 CPUs that have PCEI4.0? I can't seem to find any that are actually available for sale. I'd love to build a new WS around a 64 Core epyc - not that I need that many cores but....

I'm not 100%, but I haven't seen anything that's widely available, in atx and gen 4. Even on the Gen 3 side there's only a handful of ATX style rome boards.

MZ32-AR0 (rev. 1.0) | Server Motherboard - GIGABYTE U.S.A.

Comes to mind, but it's E-ATX which may work for you if you source the right case.

The 7742 is a monster. I kept one of the 64c QS for myself and built a pretty cool workstation. I'll post pictures soon. I use it for video rendering / encoding and it's unbelievable compared to my 9900k. (Not exactly a fair comparison but what the heck)
