Yesterday I added the purchase of a Gigabyte MZ32-AR1 motherboard to my cart and went through the checkout process, but I hesitated right before making the payment. Today I still have 2 hours to make a decision and can complete the payment at the promotional price.

What do you think—does this seem like an honest seller or rather a scam? The seller has few reviews and doesn’t seem very trustworthy, and is email-associated with RTX Technologies, which previously closed its store when offering similar prices. Will AliExpress actually protect me against a possible attempt at fraud if, for example, potatoes arrive in the package? I’m asking for your advice on what I should do.

Hum, problems start with one of the Shop1105038092 items, shipped but never left China, being delivered back to sender...

After some thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that too many factors suggest this purchase won’t end well. If I’m wrong, I’ll be crying into my pillow for a week, but at the same time, I’ll be congratulating the buyers for whom the purchase succeeded and the risk paid off.

Mine is showing the following for the different stores.

RTX:

In transit
Package arrived at local carrier facility

Second vendor(shop xxx):

Customs clearance started
Import customs clearance started

Will update the group if anything changes. Fingers crossed for at least decent potatoes in the mail.

I am half sad and half relieved that the shop can't send to Germany. Fingers crossed for the ones who ordered.
By the way: Do they also sell via Alibaba for that price? I was able to negotiate a freight forwarding service for an item from another shop.

possible blacklisted by (strict?) german customs, or the whole plarform forgot to forward import vat to germany.
ebay global shipping excludes germany too since a while.
(but netherlands, belguim, poland etc is ok.)

Shop1105038092 does not handle VAT and does not use aliexpress shipping either.

The platform deducts VAT while paying and expects the customer to handle it. That's at least what happened to me.

It collects VAT for other stuff though.

Anyway, I might end up selling the mz32 If I actually get it and it works.

I prefer a board with interleaved PCIE x16 slots for my GPUs.

Mmh, in the UK at least there is a threshold, I think it is £135. Under that the store must collect VAT and pay it to the UK, above that the store does not charge VAT but the buyer needs to pay it when receiving the parcel. Might work the same way where you are. That would explain why you see an inconsistent treatment between orders.

For a UK buyer, all prices on aliexpress are shown with VAT, then when you checkout, if the size of the order is above the threshold, it removes the VAT.

Can I just say (and yes, you can shoot me... :)) ...

The entire EU is a hot mess as far as online supply chains are concerned. Especially from outside EU. Especially from...well, anywhere except the EU.

Sorry, had to say it.

Fixed it for ya
Edit: I like to live in the EU but it's a ... mess. Sometimes I think, based on the (lack of) decisions made, most of the politicians there are imbeciles no one wants in their local governments.

Quick update and probably some sad news.

I don't believe the vendor is going to honor those prices and merchandise purchased. It seems that they have mailed a packet with an incorrect/incomplete address or some other issue (fake postage/insufficient postage) to have it be flagged and turned around.

I can see an issue when looking up the tracking number. I am not in AZ (Arizona for those outside of the US) so it seems they have some sort of fake address they try to send things to in order to fail the delivery? Not sure how common this is but I figured I would let everyone else know.

USPS note below:

Insufficient Address. Your item was returned to the sender on January 9, 2026 at 1:45 pm in PHOENIX, AZ 85040 because of an incomplete address.
I hope that mine is just a fluke and everyone else gets their packages properly. I was kind of looking forward to the potatoes...

That would be consistent with one of my parcels being returned to sender before even leaving China. The other is in the UK, which surprisingly didn't seem to charge me import duties, I will see what happens to it probably on Monday.

Hmmmm. I checked the tracking and yeah, the post code is different.

Looks scammy, they send potatoes to a different address but then what? I will fight for my money back since it was not delivered to me.

What's the point?

And what do I do now with my RAM sticks :D

I suspect the same reason why all ebay sellers who I hit on a mispricing then pretend that I requested to cancel the order. They get penalised by ebay if they initiate the cancellation. Though if that happens with this seller, it does deserve a bad review and warning to future buyers.

By the way, witch which of the sellers was that (not that I expect them to behave differently)?

The RTX store which I had hoped for better was the one with the issue... so far.

Will see if the other store ends up in the same situation. I hope your package in the UK doesn't take a detour to the highlands; unless, of course, you're in the highlands!

For what it's worth, my two parcels with Ritech and RTX which were shipped via EMS are still delayed for unknown reasons in China (supposedly awaiting a flight), while the shopX order was shipped via DHL appears to still supposedly be on its way...

I'm not really hopeful, but I will wait a few more days before I officially give up...

So, pay for shipping just to avoid a penalty?

I was contacted once by a seller stating the item was out of stock and asking me to cancel. I was not thrilled but I did it.

Tracking reports the shipment has reached the destination country but the destination post code is not mine and it shows a weight of 0.2kg which does not make sense for a mobo+cpu.

Eagerly waiting for the future and what I will do to get this sorted out.
