Hello,
Just joined, looks like a great forum. My question is about WD HDD Firmware. I have a Synology DS1813+ and would like to purchase a WD RED 8 TB Drive (WD80EFZX - 68UW8N0)

The synology website specifies this drive must have firmware 83.H0A83 to be compatible.

Before I purchase this drive, I want to know if it retailer's drive has the right firmware. How can I work this out? is the firmware fixed and will always be this or are there different versions?

thank you so much for your time
Daniel

Complicated I guess and I am taking in general here not especially WD RED.

- there can be different hardware sub models of The type of drive (eg WD red) and they may only come with a specific family or version of firmware
- generally you can upgrade firmware, but likely the tested version is a level that is now no longer shipped or possible to downgrade to
