Just ordered a p4610, and based on the what ive read here and from my experience with sn200, u.2 drive requires proper cooling.
Would it be a good idea to stick some kind of heatsink / fan on top of the drive?

Airflow rather than heatsink , doesn’t need to be a huge amount unless you have a number of drives close together. Also tne drives can be rather different idle vs heavy usage. (not exactly sure on p4610 but can’t imagine much different from other u.2 drives.)

Start with airflow and add a heatsink if needed, the p4610 is lower power draw than sn200 so should run cooler. I have an sn200 in my desktop and had to add a velociraptor heatsink to cool it. The same drive was fine in a server with a little air flow.

Hmm airflow is already good i think, with my server case i was getting 40-50ish temp, think i'm gonna stick a copper heatsink onto the drive and see if its make any difference..

I bought copper heatsink from aliexpress and stick it to the p4610, like this

I'm getting 35-38 temp readings, havent tested it under heavy load though

I stuck a laptop heatpipe+fan on one not long ago for a client, works a treat, a huge selection of heatpipe+fan kits stripped from laptops on ebay for pennies, U2 drives prefer airflow directly across them, it is the manufacturers intended design for enterprise use-cases.
