I think he is referring to the fact the i226 support for pfsense CE is not there yet ...
It actually is on 2.7, and the snapshots are extremely stable since the official release is close. In fact, with any CE snapshot BEFORE the 15th of February you can actually upgrade directly to 23.01.

So now we just need someone who is willing to test the new N100/N95/whatever boxes. I hope we dont need to wait until V4 to see the most annoying bugs fixed. I am sure I will buy one of those later and replace my J3160. The power consumption should be similar, with a much faster cpu under the hood.

Just had a closer look at the page of Topton, and it seems they copy&paste moved the description and pictures from the N5105 to the N100 page. The motherboard e.g. shows two Dimm sockets the new board doesn't have, and they still praise upgrades introduced on the N5105, like the newer NICs or a change in the case. I wonder how the new system looks like in reality.

And another detail: The mainboard is shown, and it seems the picture is from a new one. Only one RAM slot, NVME shown. I just miss the SATA connector on the picture - strange.

Was shipped a fan with my unit but I wanted to keep it fanless.
I decided to design a more open airflow base with some longer 20mm feet for airflow - which I 3D printed:
1679844389281.png1679844419588.png

CPU: +38.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 0: +35.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 1: +35.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 2: +35.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 3: +35.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)

ACPI Interface: +44.0°C (crit = +119.0°C)

NVME (No Heatsink): +37.9°C (low = -273.1°C, high = +76.8°C)

RAM 1: +37.9°C (low = -273.1°C, high = +65261.8°C)
RAM 2: +40.9°C (low = -273.1°C, high = +65261.8°C)

Tempted to also design a front and rear honeycomb mesh faceplate, since that'd allow for convection to take away more heat.
Havn't even checked my paste/cpu gap yet.

Just connected a noctua NF-A4 x10 and a noctua NF-P12 redux 120x25 (with a Y) to the motherboard using JST 4pin 1.25mm cable and the automatic connectors provided by Noctua.

Here is the JST 4P 1.25mm cable :

I looked for the good wiring for power and PWM using the Bios Hardware monitor and found that wires are in same order than Noctua connector, but different colors.

No USB3.
NVME is just x1.
RAM is DDR5. One slot. Too expensive right now.

Hmm... meh.

I think the written specs are wrong (no surprise there) - it has 2 blue usb 3 so looks like 2x USB2 and 2x USB3
NVME... yeah but that's still 1GB/s which would be enough for me
RAM - you're only ever going to get 1 slot with these newer chips

I'll be waiting for (at least) the 2nd gen, especially with the i226 issues.
Replying to my own post and boomBang's.

- So, according to the new pages, there isn't USB3, and to be honest, i don't many think here will miss it.

- NVME looks to be x4 afterall. They even claim to support 4x x1 disks! This is looking very promising IMHO, as you can use it as a NAS. So, it means you can use some kind of adapter with a m.2 connector with 4 disk slots. Can't find any however. Plus, you can bond the 4 NICs of course for higher speed.

- DDR5 32GB, speed till 5600Mhz.

In the middle of the page, there seems to be an actual pic of the interior of these new mini-pcs.

Combine it with another picture where they explain some possible M.2 adapter cards, and to me it looks like there is no SATA port on the mainboard. If you want to use it with a sata ssd, you will have to use an adapter card plus the power connector for SATA which is visible.

I imagine this is a basic question, but hat makes 2 slots better than 1?
Does DDR5 with one slot compare with 2 slots of DDR4?

I’m looking to use one of the mini-itx
boards as a NAS (and maybe a router as well down the line).

I’m unsure of the implications of the dual vs single channel ram, and would appreciate any insights you all have.

- 2 slots would support dual channel, but the n100 does not support it. But, as someone said, with DDR5's higher speeds, is dual channel really needed?...

- If you don't play games with it, or cpu demanding operations, i think dual channel wont be an issue. For cpu intensive stuff, i think you'll pick other kind of box.

Kingnovy N100 model here

Anyrevo N100 model here

Topton N100 mode here

Will be interesting to see those wattage numbers at idle and load.

Bit confused why they went with the N305 and not N300 8 core model also, the n300 has half the watts listed but guess real figure numbers will be different.

If you search for such hardware on ali, use "n100 12th gen" to get the best results. I tried n100 pfsense and similar combinations but always got J64xx or N5105 boxes as first hits

Just for reference: I went from an inside-mounted 80x80x10 fan to a Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM (120x120x15) screwed on the outside casing.

Temperature dropped from 32C to 25C, with literally no noise at all. Pretty impressed.

I found the NFA12x15 with noctua low noise adaptor still a bit too noisy, but am only a few inches way from my unit, tried the NF-P12 redux 120x25 but that has a slight coil whine noise most probably won't notice it though I sadly did perhaps I have fox like ears for coil whine.

In the end went for an NF-S12A 120mm ULN with the noctua low noise adaptor, the whine is more mellowed out and lesser enough to not be heard few inches away at least, I just punched holes through the metal dust filter mesh and used cable ties to hold the Noctua S12A 120mm fan onto it.

Certainly not pretty but keeps temps down for the unit, nvme, ssd at least.

DSC_0059.JPG
this is the redux but did replace with NF-S12A 120mm ULN for less coil whine same positioning, just needed 3-4 cable ties to hold in place.

Its a shame the CWWK V5 unit does not come with fan speed control in the bios, then you could use more fans and have greater control but its ok with silent fans and noctua low fan noise adaptors.

I screwed mine on the upper side of the casing, so that it cools directly the cpu pads, there is literally no noise/vibrations. On the lower side I guess it doesn't do much.

CWWK might release a new bios with PWM support shortly, fingers crossed.

I've been curious for a while, have any of you measured the power delta between with-fan and no-fan? I.e., how many additional watts does the fan draw?

The Noctua stated above is rated to max 1.56W, that is at full speed. If your BIOS supports PWM then the wattage is definitely going to be lower.

Another company on Ali offers the N100/../N300 versions: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005392980780.html

Special here: if the pictures are not faked, then it is a different case. Be aware that the same company offers the same machines with a very similar one (55mm height according to the text) and this one here with 60mm height. Might be a better design to keep the routers cooler.

Seems a similar case as in the CWWK Alder Lake series. The Case gets pretty good reviews in this thread. Would be nice to know if the case has heatpipes as its bigger brother (probably not). I'll wait until CWWK has this case in their store and ask them about.

Edit: and what's a bit strange is the pic with the wifi antennas, USB ports and display outputs do not match with the other images.
