I picked up the 6 port j6413 version from topton to use as an opnsense firewall/router. I ordered on Nov 1, and received it on Nov 15th. I did take a look at the heat sink clearances. Mine looked ok. Removed the copper plate, sanded surfaces smooth replaced the thermal paste with new stuff. I have it up and running the latest opnsense with a few plugins. Sits at about 45c. virtually no cpu being used ~5% even tho I setup a few ports to be bridged ( was told this was hard on the CPU because of routing packets need to be inspected by cpu if you setup a bridge. Anyway so far pretty happy with the purchase.

me too got the 6port j6413 with proxmox and opnsense with passthrough nics, works good so far.
What did you exactly do to check cpu cooling, sry i dont really get the steps. I would like to check mine also

yes i see the same difference in core /VID

can you try running PL1 at 20W without time limit .... in theory you should be capped by temps at some point depending on how good the cooler is.
Curious if you can see full speeds.

what im trying to get from bios is full clocks and keep the full clocks until thermal limit is hit .... that would be the nice behaviour

the even funny thing is if i run only FPU 2.6 ghz is all i get ...and then drops to 2.2

Meanwhile, I sanded the box removing all the ink in the AL blocks areas, lapped the AL block a bit (it didn't need) and applied thermal Grizzly Kryonaut in CPU block and MX5 in i225 block.
I didn't remove those tapes in both sides of the CPU, used to protect the die from being crushed, I made a test with thermal paste and the die made very good contact with the AL block.
I had to put 2 shimms/washers in one side of the motherboard, because one side was too short and that was flexing the motherboard a bit.

The box is just warm to the touch, from being power on for 30 minutes but idle:
1669033216341.png

I'm going to try AIDA FPU test with BIOS P1:20W,0s; P2:20W now:
Note1: This is the first time it's being used after the thermal paste was applied yesterday, I don't remember if it needs time to cure.
Note2: Box side plates and bottom plate are removed (because of SATA cable and being working on it).

-> Mains power during test: 26.x W
Components (inside the box) power consumption (approximated, measure idle in bios, by removing each one):
2x8GB RAM Crucial (4 chips on one side of each sodimm): 0,6W
256GB NVME SSD: 1,2W
128GB SATA SSD: 1,0W
HDMI display: 1,2W
1 Ethernet port idle at 1Git: 0,5W

-> After I just stopped the test, CPU cores temp (cyan) drops instantaneous from 76C to 53C (and the motherboard cpu sensor temp (green) drops from 67C to 64C):

this is the expected behavior ..... with "no power limits", if there is no thermal issues the cpu should be able to boost all day to max ....

mine does not ... that is why i suspect a Bios issue on v3/v4 and im saying we should bomb the support for it .... you have have v1/v2 right ?

I use opnsense it has widgets for the dashboard that show the cpu temps. Left-hand side of this snip.

Don't know about proxmox or psfense. They probably have something similar.

-> I bought this N5105 4xi225, only because it was the lowest price with a bigger box, (with coupons in 11.11 was 150eur delivered, VAT included):

I don't have a photo of the motherboard here, but it's the same as @lukasig , but mine has N5105:
https://forums.servethehome.com/ind...225v-mini-pc-report.36699/page-79#post-353363

-> When I was changing the thermal paste the CPU looks 100% genuine, because the power consumption is a bit high and just in case I googled one of the codes printed on the CPU: SRKGV
https://www.intel.sg/content/www/xa...r-n5105-4m-cache-up-to-2-90-ghz/ordering.html

-> I installed WIN10 PRO for tests without serial and it is activated.
It can be free upgraded to win11 (PRO), so it's win11 compatible and will be also activated.
Not that I'm going to use it here, but maybe it's important to someone.

-> Looks like your motherboard has a BIOS issue, like you say.
BTW I find hard to believe that video with N5105 full load doing 12.5W CPU package, maybe it's silicon lotery, but N5105 TDP is 10W, how can it do 12.5W at 2.8GHz... We would need other people tests to know what is the CPU package baseline for N5105.

Another question (tried search but failed). For those that installed a 40mm fan, did you install it with as an intake or exhaust fan?
Intake for me. Got a 40x10 5V noctua blowing on my nvme with a heatsink to keep it cooler. My case is the smaller one with the vented holes on either side so it serves as a good air channel for it to go out. Works quite well and also helps provide active cooling to the main heatsink (case).

that is why i asked here for ppl to take a look.... the main issue is that , at least mine, will not do 2.8 with 20w or 30w PL1 ... i dont want it to pull 12.5W .... i want it to go full speed until it hits thermal limit.
That is what i am after.... 12.5w or 15w is not the important part here.

from the looks of it ...is not a CW mobo .... so i dont know which version is that. on topton/CW i dont remember seeing power and hdd LEDs , but i might get it wrong.

Let's wait to see if some more people will test N5105 2.8GHz 4 cores full load CPU package power.

Yes, it's a different board from those CW manufactures and sells.

I'm at 37 Degrees.
Currently, OPNsense is running Zenarmour and a bunch of other plugins.
Check my turntables. Perhaps they have helped. Take a look at my previous posts for other ideas!

I set your tunables on mine and looks to drop the temp by 3-5c. thanks.

I did not set the zenarmor one as I am not using it an my config marks it as invalid.

Can anyone with n6005/n5105/j6413 show the output of
Code:
iperf3 -s -D && iperf3 -c 127.0.0.1
Under opnsense/pfsense
Thanks in advance

Done that test with OPNsense, pentium 7505, proxmox + vm. OPN has all 2 cores / 4 threads available.

Hi all,

I received my ordered Topton N5105 device with i226-V NICs last week as barebone. I added ram and NVME which I still had at home.

What confuses me, are the following things:
  • When switched off and power plug is still attached to the device, it consumes 3 watts - Why? Wake on LAN is switched off on bios. The power supply unit is from liteOn and seems to be ok, since it consumes no power when the computer is plugged off.
  • „Idle“ power with Opnsense is 13 watts maybe quite high?
  • The cpu requires 1,7 volts in bios. Maybe quite high?
  • The board has no manufacturer information stored in bios and also no sticker on board from manufacture, only the one on the back
Is it maybe not best quality?

I applied already some bios tweaks on reducing P1/P2 wattage and some others, described some pages before in this thread.

Bios has version V105

Board Revision seems to be V3

what do you think?

Good news, everyone! (in Professor Farnsworth voice)

I just unlocked all my AMI BIOS hiden options!
My Motherboard is a GF-1338NP-12, revision V1.4 printed on board and windows software says it's a Techvision TVI7309X.

This works for AMI BIOS, after pressing DEL and inside BIOS options, press one of these: CRTL-F1, SHIFT-F1 or ALT-F1.
In my case pressing CRTL-F1 while at inside BIOS will unhide or hide back all the hidden advanced options.
I didn't try anything more, just going to explore the ton of options now.

ATTENTION: Probably changing some of the hidden options can brick/damage the BOX, so change only what you know is safe.

There are a lot of hidden options to explore, maybe this option (or others) will remove you MB low temperature throttling, see description and if you have my BIOS values:

yes ... all of those are default :)

i think you should check for the gap and mitigate it .... you will get way better temps. i have the exact same model.

do you have windows installed ?
im curious if your unit boosts and maintains 2.8 ghz until thermal limit if you put PL1 to at least 20w .....but that needs to happen after you fix the gap because otherwhise it will cap really soon
