The SIM slot is directly wired to the MPCIe slot, so the modem has to talk directly to it. If anything goes wrong (on the modem, the PCIe slot, the SIM slot or the SIM itself) it doesn't work and the motherboard won't be able to tell you about it as it's not in the loop on that communication.

That means that the AT command sent to the modem will always be a bit of a black box since it cannot tell you where the problem is.

Sim is working, tested of course.

Remain the SIM Slot and the PCIe slot. if something is broken on the PCIe slot, quectel should not be identified right? I assume that probably the problem is the SIM slot

Hello, maybe someone can help understand the problem.
I dohave a topton device with N6000 CPU, the motherboard is BKHD‑1338NP‑12‑4L and this motherboard have a SIM slot.I bought Quectel EC25-EUX it work with opnsense but "AT+CPIN?" command return SIM not inserted. Is the SIM slot on this motherboard fake or what?
I have exactly the same setup. You must install SIM card when device is turned off completely then check again. Hot swapping doesn’t work at all.

EDIT: Also you must install the simcard in the position that feels wrong. Cutout on the sim must face towards you and NOT towards inside of the device.

You totally saved me. Thanks a lot, now the SIM work.
The only problem that I'm facing now is that:

at+csq
+CSQ: 99,99

OK
at+cereg?
+CEREG: 0,0

I'm using the module without the antenna, could it be this the problem or I should be worried that IMEI could be not in allowed list here?

I’m not too sure to be completely honest. However I know that you need cell reception to be able to check to see if your device is able to register to the network. This device is a faraday cage internally, you will need SMA Connectors out of the device even if you don’t attach any antennas.

Hi, I have the same board but with N5100.

I think I may help you. As someone suggested before, it may be related to RAM.
I solved a very similar problem by simply replacing the "EC12" capacitor, near RAM slots.
You have to remove the solid state capacitor and put an electrolytic one.
EC12 is 560uF / 6,3V. I replaced it with a Panasonic FM.

The Low ESR of solid state capacitor, may cause some problems.
Vendor talks about "compatibility", in my opinion is just a design flaw.

Try to power on the computer without RAM. If it turns on, I think your problem is the same as mine.
I fixed it 1 year ago, it is working fine 24/24h since then.
In my case sometimes it eventually starts retrying 10/20 times.
When the power-on sequence fails, a protection kicks in and you have to detach the power plug for a couple of seconds to reset.

Just ask if you need more details.
Thanks!!!

Greetings old thread. Yesterday the old very cheap SSD I was using failed (accidentally had opnsense netflow logs going to SSD instead of RAM). While I was replacing it, I noticed a couple of things.

1) My CMOS/clock coin battery died. However, it's not just a simple coin battery swap but it has a couple of electrical leads and a little wire and plug that goes into the motherboard. Does anyone know an easy/cheap way to replace it?

2) I wanted to check for BIOS updates, but the CWWK website doesn't seem to list anything and the old links from this thread seem to be down, does anyone know the current bios download situation?

1. Check Aliexpress and search for CMOS battery. But be careful, there two size of the connector.

2. CWWK BIOS page is here: CWWK Drive, folder for Jasper Lake is here: CWWK Drive. But I think there are five different versions of the N5105/N6005, so be sure to take the right version.
oh those bios listings are a damn nightmare. No idea which one I have. I've been okay for three or four years without updating, I think I can go further.

incidentally the lack of a clock battery hasn't been a problem either. Opnsense has been auto updating itself nicely with the time.

Ha ha, yeah, a real mess. There should be a name printed on the board, this should help. There were about 5 different versions, easiest is 4x i226 with N5105 (then it's probably a v4 or v5). If its a 6 port, one with i225 or with N6005 you have to be very careful...

I would exchange if possible. I prefer my BIOS settings to be remembered. The connector is either 3.5mm or 5mm wide. If you could measure your connector, I'll gladly lock for the right offer on Aliexpress. If you are in Switzerland I'll send you a battery (I have a few in stock because I ordered a 5 pack on Ali). Sometimes local computer stores have them in stock, they are pretty common. Also check local online stores.

Those are becoming fairly common on regular desktop PC motherboards too now because board space is becoming a limitation on more feature rich boards. You will likely be able to find cheap replacements locally too, not just on AliExpress. :)
