I got this Alder Lake unit from AliExpress.

The issue I'm having is that I can't get Proxmox, Ubuntu, pfSense on it. It came with Windows by default.

It's really dead simple hardware so I don't understand why Ubuntu doesn't work. It'll start the boot, but then just turn off after try or install ubuntu. I wanted to virtualize so I tried Proxmox and it let me select the 7.3 and 7.4 installer, then it kicked me out right after.

I'm at my wit's end on this.

In essence it is related to the i915 kernel driver.

Current advise is to install Proxmox 7.1.x and then upgrade the the latest version with the opt-in 6.2 kernel.

I got the box running that way. Adding "nomodeset" to the kernel line will get you Ubuntu server installed.
Opnsense runs out of the box.
