Top supercomputers and xeon cpus

The latest leader on TOP500 is Fugaku. 415 PFLOPS using arm cpus

But look at Tianhe, it's powered by the Xeon E5-2692 v2 12 core cpu! Trinity are powered by Xeon v3 cpus!

I can say I proudly own 1/50.000 of Tianhe as well as 1/300,000 of Trinity lol...2011v2 and v3 cpu are still relevant!

Seems like they are quickly on their way down though. Only #10 and 11 for those Xeon v3 machines. But I guess a large portion of those FLOPs comes from accelerators anyway.

it's hard to believe a top 10 supercomputer right now uses cpu made from almost a decade ago! that's like millenia in age for computer tech.

There was not too much progress in the CPU market since Haswell, IPC wise. The biggest difference is IO and packaging, with enough space and the right accelerator cards, I don't see a reason why Haswell based systems can't lead the ranking...
