Hello everyone!
I was kindly given a Fujitsu server 'Primergy RX300 S8' with 256GB ECC RAM by a colleague at work, as he had been fired.
Now, in addition to the server, I've got 16 SAS disks and the additional controllers, which I'm considering flashing into IT mode in order to partially implement ZFS pools via them:
- Fujitsu / LSI SAS9200-8e (has two external ports for connecting an enclosure / JBod)
- Fujitsu DS2607-A21
- Fujitsu D2616-A22
- Fujitsu D3116 RAID Controller
I would like to use the SAS disks as a data storage and possibly set up a TrueNAS VM under Proxmox to manage the data storage....
Now my questions about the setup:

Now my questions about the setup:
- Do any of you have tips on the easiest way to flash the controllers mentioned into IT mode and where I can get the necessary firmware?
- I would like to connect an SSD to each of the two SATA ports on the server, which I want to implement as a “shared setup” so that I still have a hard disk as a backup in the event of a hard disk failure. What would you recommend for 4 -6 TB SSDs? Should I use enterprise hardware like this?
--> SSDs für Server und Rechenzentren - Kingston Technology and datacenters
- How do I get my “mirrored setup” of the SATA SSDs realized under Proxmox?
- How do I find out the maximum hard disk capacities I can connect to the server? My colleague at work said that the server only supports SAS disks with a maximum of 1.2 TB each, which I can't believe. I thought it depends more on the operating system than on the server board / controller. Or am I wrong?
