This just looks funny

Realized I needed this screenshot:

It certainly looks funny. 8 NUMA nodes, 4 threads per node. Then again, $450 CPUs.

EPYC 7251 is DDR4-2400 only IIRC, but it is running at 2400.

What would the licensing cost based on CPU socket? would this be 8 or 2 sockets?

You can see lscpu is correctly listing 2 sockets. Luckily, the concept of sockets and NUMA nodes has been defined properly for some time.

I bet it doesn't look funny for Intel management :)
I do not think that is the SKUs they are worried about frankly. Lower 2P performance than the 2P Silver 4108 in many cases at higher power and cost.

That is not to say I have theories about other price points.

But all those lanes and dimm channels right...
Remember in a 2P config EYPC does not have the same advantage of number of PCIe lanes over Intel compared to a 1P config.

Most 2P intel servers have 24 x rdimm support so that's 768gb using 32gb modules (1.5tb using 64gb modules also as they are becoming lest cost prohibitive, or rather I should say are not attracting as much premium for a large size dimm) and you don't loose performance like the e5's did fully populating the slots.

I guess Baby EPYC makes more sense in a 1P config
Sure does, NVMe storage appliances and similar is perfect for 1P.
Threadripper if supporting ECC RDIMM would be perfect... can dream can't we :)

And I assume (maybe very wrongly I don't know) that storage things don't care too much about NUMA nodes)

Hey Patrick - are you saying there are significant performance penalty for not using a single die for the EPYC implementation?

I guessing that @Patrick thought the EYPC would be equal to the 4110 given the similar cores/clocks (and with a much higher TDP and presumably power consumption) and a much large cache.

Maybe the intel is in front... sitting on the edge of my seat for the update now also !
