I think it's Facebook. I recently purchased a bunch of DL380, DL360, and DL180 all G6 series, and the iLO hostnames for everything had facebook.com as part of it. Mainly out of the Ashburn VA location.

Very much the main source. Even the L5520 generation was (I think we mentioned this in another thread.)

BTW - these are going to be the next L5520 in terms of low power low cost chips due to sheer volumes out there. Sellers were dumping the C6100's with L5520's and pulling the L5639's out to keep the prices low.

nah I use emulex since it has vcenter plugin, unified driver, simple single eufi flash , esxi support, MSA alliance.

Most people are afraid of CNA's :) lol, their loss.

93$ one day sale!! OMG WTF LOL
I've been watching that specific seller since you started this thread. He usually makes a one day sale and then after its over manually lowers the price. There is a $95 listing by another seller without a sale here: Intel Xeon Six Core CPU L5639 SLBZJ 2 13GHz 5 86GTS QPI LGA 1366 | eBay

These are headed lower based on supply. Still a killer deal.
I know. Trying to balance how much I actually want a few of them vs how long I'm willing to wait for the price to drop even more... :p

Can anyone recommend a good low-power-consuming motherboard for LGA1366, which supports registered ECC, to go with these Xeon's?

I'm in the process of replacing my 2yo. HP Microserver (consolidating other home IT functions into VM's), but at these prices, the L5639 looks to be very tempting, especially as it'll work with a broader range of RDIMM's (i.e. cheaper used prices) than the Lynnfield 1156 CPU's (which require DIMM's with 8-bit chips).

PS - Hi all, first post!

I'd been keen to know the answer to this also if anyone has any recommendations.
I think a lot of people are just buying systems at this point. Since these are older motherboards you can buy barebones servers really cheaply.

I picked up DL160 G6 and SE1120 motherboards for $25 each. The Storageworks board is a lefthand p4300g2 AKA dl180 G6 with ilo2 and a real bios :)

They use pretty standard power supply and the DL160 G6 has a single SAS port (not sure how that works there's a x1 slot sitting next to it). Both have a x16 slot and a x4 slot.

I might throw the DL160 G6 into an old workstation case and 18 4gb dimms ($180) for 72gb of ram, this would go with a pair of L5639 that go for $70 each (easy big two at 70 each) and throw some water cooling on the cpu's :) This would be quiet!

$25 for a tested guaranteed dual socket motherboard. insane!

I am assuming though that no io shield come with the motherboards, correct?

The link for the memory takes it to a generic 4GB DIMM search (ah, maybe it was just a keyword highlighting). Where are you finding $180 for 18x4GB, I'd be interested. Prefer 8's but who am I to complain, if they're out there!
