The problem is the reliability is random, so for any hobby use, go for it.
For any professional use, beware. Never use "the latest hot stuff" and make sure every feature that you will need is completely supported.

For this particulat switch, it seems not all models were affected, the issue was quite random, Mikrotik never really acknowledged it (yet released a fix for it) and never explained the root cause. (most probably faulty hardware on some models).

Also, if you returned a faulty model, they would ship you back a new one.. that was affected too..

Got my second hand switch, it's working well. I like router OS and all the info that it gives me. SFP+ ports work well.

I got a SFP+ 10gigcopper module. It works well but the downside is they run really hot. Like excessively hot.

It's a shame that the switch doesn't have some 10gig copper ports.

Are you using one of the old 10GBASE-T transceivers rated for only 30 meters? Those are known to get "burning your fingers" hot. The newer ones rated for 80 or 100 meters still get hot, but much less so due to their lower power consumption.

I ordered brand new ones but I might have got old stock. These didn't burn my fingers but they ran hot.

I'll have a look at the model and post here when I get home. Bit annoying they would sell me the older ones. Paid too much for them too.

The supplier here in AU is a bit shit. They are not keen on returns.

The older ones are still being sold because they are cheaper. It's only in the last year or so that the 80 and 100 meter ones have become available for a reasonable price. As an example, I paid roughly €120-130 each for 100 meter ones from Flexoptix. More recently, I managed to buy a 100 meter one for $25 (including 25% VAT) on AliExpress, down from the usual $40-45. An absolute steal. :D

Admittedly, Flexoptix is only selling to business customers and the transceivers are reprogrammable so their prices are obviously going to be higher. FS.com sold them for a similar price though, and the cheapest one available at the time was from Ubiquiti for €90 or so.

Do you have a link from Ali Express that you could share with me? I would like to grab a 100m one for testing.
Thanks :)

There is a whole thread discussing them:

I have the ZYOPM 100 meter one, and the XICOM 80 meter one. Note that you have to pick the correct one in the listing.
