Article is somewhat stating the obvious no? Multi-node per enclosure systems are becoming more popular. If you look at trends, shared PSUs and cooling are becoming more popular. C6100 is multiple nodes sharing power and cooling. The recent HP Moonshoot 1500 Hyperscale Computing Released shows that trend to the next step.
The whole revolutions is basically disaggregation of systems into smaller parts that can be swapped easily. That is why I wrote the piece on common compute nodes.
yeah the whole idea is awesome. Having boards with just gpus, connected to another board with logic and another one with cpus fantastic.
I like it... and I hate it.
I use tons of IO and tons of VMs so I really really like it. On the other hand, the part of me that loves eBay deals really hates it. You just know that this new architecture will be designed so that you must buy all components from one vendor, at "enterprise" prices.
