Switch advice for hot place , no not quite Mordor...yet

Hi,

I’m looking for a managed 24-port PoE switch with 10GbE or multigig downlink , 2.5 minimum, and at least 2×10Gb SFP+ uplinks

It will be installed in an open loft space where the ambient temperature can reach around 45°C, possibly a little higher, for several hours during very hot summer days.

Do you have any recommendations based on real-world experience? I’m especially interested in models that may be rated close to that limit on paper, but are known to cope well in practice.

Also interested in any experiences with what tends to fail first in these conditions — fans, PSU, PoE delivery, optics, or something else.

Apparently there are "industrial grade" switches that are designed for high heat environments (perhaps as hot at 75°- 85°C) . A "normal" commercial grade switch is not going to last long term in a 45°C environment IMHO. So definitely check the specs and search for industrial grade switches.

Looked at a few, new seem to be rather expensive, and finding the temperature thresholds in product listings is not easy.

On Ebay there are some Siemens and Phoenix at reasonable prices, (below 200€) but often with to few ports, and /or non-GB.

Not possible, it would only shift warm air in to already warm space and swirl around that a bit. Only way would be to poke a whole either down through ceiling or up through roof tiles, jack a tube to that, and none is acceptable.

High temperature range requires different chips, and the volume of these chips is lower than "regular" temperature ranges, add the specialty nature of what you want, and yes they will be expensive. They may also be DIN rail mounting for industrial uses in cabinets.

Here are two product lines, but I bet the Extreme Networks switches are in the few thousand dollars each (looked at one model, it was $4xxx).

I think "extended temperature ethernet switch" will give the best results, but you might find other keywords in the above document.
Finally, Mikrotik does have a series of outdoor switches, they may be rated higher and lower, but their info did not list the temperature range. Almost none of the choices I found have 2.5g ports (might be none) and few had 10g ports. I'm guessing you have a lot of searching to do to fill all your needs.
