So I tried a few different things for 1U with my 1541 just using some card stock and the noctuas. Having two pull air through the heatsink with a cardstock shroud still brought the CPU up to 90C under heavy loads.

3 fans and a cardstock duct finally had enough airflow to cap loads out at 80C.

Good to know! I actually have exactly the same case as you, but it's used as a firewall not a NAS, so just have a PCIE network card in the riser on the left.

What made you decide 90 was too high? Not enough headroom for comfort? The chip is rated to 108C but I noticed it issues a system warning at 102C.

Hey folks,

Has anyone here had experience using a budget-friendly low to mid-range heatsink? I'm considering options like the Cooler Master Hyper 411R, Thermalright Assassin X 90 SE, Amazon Basic CPU Cooler, Arctic Freezer 7X, etc.

I saw this Thermalright AXP120, but I was wondering about a single-tower one:
I change D1521 to D1581(x10sdv-4c-tln2f), cost about $30. using Thermalright AXP120. It works perfectly. idles at 40c
