SC836 only having 1 8 pin power connector? That is weird... if that's truly the cast that must be an -extremely- old 836. The last 4 836 I handled all used these boards no problem.
Yes.. Only 1 8pin power connector. I guess that is my problem then. Spent the entire day on this issue. Is there a 8pin splitter or 8pin to molex adapter or should I get another Supermicro chassis?

Another option is replace the power distribution board in my existing SC836 to the one that has 2x 8pin power connectors. Does anyone know what the part number is for the power distribution board?

AFAIK 216, 826, 825, 836 use interchangeable PDBs. Check if they are tucked away/hidden under all the wires.

The PDB (Power Distribution Board) in my SC836 has the part number PDB-PT825-N24. This unit has only 1 8pin power connector. It looks like I need the PDB-PT825-8824 unit. It has 2x 8pin power connector. There is a PDB-PT825-S8824 unit as well but I don't think it will work in my SC836 chassis. Will check on Ebay tonight...

If your PDB has additinal 4 pin, that should work also. I still can't believe they didn't include 2 x 8pin connector on 836 chassis.

Had the same issue on an older ebay purchased sc825, when installing a newish mobo last week, luckily had purchased a spare PDB-PT825-S8824, the replacement took about 5 minutes, most time took was routing PDB harness.
Link to 836 models, look at parts options, lists the PDB for each model.

It looks like the correct PDB is PDB-PT825-8824. Ordered one from Ebay.

You must have an 836 from the Supermicro X7 era.

Yes.. When I purchased the chassis on Ebay, it had the X7DBE motherboard in it. Do you think the chassis will work with the X9 motherboard after the PDB replacement?

I don't see why not, but you might have one or two stand offs where there is no way for you to move the stand off in the chassis itself. That's just a guess tho.

File my 'item not received' dispute with eBay, and received my money back in short order - even though I wanted to board rather than the cash back. So at least I'm not out of pocket, just a sad panda.

I got a $120 refund from the seller for the damaged COM port. Once I receive my new PDB, I will confirm the motherboard is working correctly.

Got the PDB is PDB-PT825-8824 in today and still it looks like the motherboard is not powering on.. Would a incompatible CPU or memory cause the motherboard not to power on? Any suggestions to try?

Yes.. The fans are powering up.. There is a blinking green light on the motherboard.

Was on the phone with SuperMicro Tech support. Removed all memory, removed CPU1 and CPU2 and reinstalled only CPU1. Did the CMOS reset and still no post beeps....

According to Supermicro Tech Support, the BIOS version is 3.0. Is there a way to see the BIOS version number in the IPMI interface?
