Supermicro X9 motherboards and v2 ivy bridge cpu support?

I got a great offer from a seller for a lot of motherboards of model X9SRL. But they are revision 1.01a. I know some motherboards don't work with Ivy Bridge when they're not revision 1.2 or 1.02.

Does this have anything to do with the chipset, or is it just weakness from Supermicro regarding that generation of motherboards?

I can't find anything that would indicate that there are multiple revisions for this board. I know you've to be careful with the x9dri-ln4f, only the revision 1.2 does support Ivy Bridge.
The Thomas-Krenn Wiki is pretty accurate and it lists only 1.01a Supermicro X9SRL-F Mainboard – Thomas-Krenn-Wiki

I read somewhere it has to do with bios chipset. In the early days you could not send the mobo and supermicro will update the bios chip for free, but not now.
