Regarding the loud fan: they do list an X11SSV-M4F version on the website. 100% the same except with a passive heatsink.

Just took a closer look.

Listed on Tigerdirect for $904 but that is likely an "early channel bandit" price. Will be interesting to see where regular channel pricing falls out.

This board compares well against the Skull Canyon NUC. Processors are similar (NUC is i7-6770HQ which is clocked 2 ticks lower - 2.6 vs 2.6 with 3.5 vs 3.7 turbo and lacks vPRO). But the NUC includes 802.11ac, Bluetooth and Thunderbolt-3.

@PigLover and ECC RAM, a PCIe x16 slot and hit has 8MB cache not 6MB. Even looks like the P580 turbos higher on the E3.

I'd believe it if you told me this was more expensive. Also it's more like this has more expansion than the NUC so it'll be more expensive for sure.

I'd certainly expect it to come in higher than the NUC too - for exactly the reasons you list. But not 50% ($300) higher. Especially considering that the NUC is a fully packaged barebone with case, power and mounting brackets vs MB/CPU only here.

Your preference depends on your application and needs.

The X11SSV-M4F is quite a bit different to the X11SSV-M4 and would be for a different market.

The X11SSV-M4F has very limited external graphics outputs compared to the X11SSV-M4. Eg no hdmi or displayport on the X11SSV-M4F and the Intel Iris Pro P580 is limited to VHD use.

CPU is different too.
