Is it just me or are the mitx boards missing ATX connectors? A 100w board isn't going to be easy to pico psu plus a brick

I hope that Supermicro will launch an ITX board with support for standard 1151/2011 size heatsinks, so we can use something other (read: quieter/smaller/cooler) than their own products.

So far the skylake xeon d launch has been fairly disappointing for me, I was looking forward to quickassist, but the large increase in TDP makes it much harder to cool in a small space (like a NAS). I guess I have to wait a little while to see if someone launches something interesting, but so far it looks like I will have to buy a previous gen board.

Oh no.... would have hoped for 8 dimms in flex-atx so 256gb (8x32gb rdimm) was possible. Hate using 64gb or larger lrdimm just to get memory on a platform. Anyway it’s not something that will end up in my DC’s, would have been purely a home use platform but them the scalable Xeon line is just as good and more flexible.

The biggest advantage ‘may’ be the Low power usage but have a feeling it won’t be that Low....

If you read some of my comments I do think Xeon Gold and Silver make good alternative s if you can live with mATX. 6-12 DIMM slots help.

Three bits I learned today:
  1. There are two actively cooled SKUs "+" versions for the mITX models. Will update in the main site post.
  2. The heatsink(s) are HUGE compared to the D-1500 series passive coolers.
  3. The mITX version does not have a traditional ATX PSU connector.

@Patrick what are we looking at in those bios screens ? I must be blind as to what is interesting.

Ok good I was just a bit confused by the kind of random shot.
If only SM would have given 8 dimm slots on the larger boards, 8x32gb=256gb would have been sweet.
I can see the advantage of what is essentially a single board computer for these systems and I do like it’s not a cut down core at all, ie still has same cache and avx512 etc, has QAT in some versions and 4x10g is certainly nice. Mini-ITX if your space constrained.

@Patrick since you have the 4-core there.... power consumption and performance benchmarks ;)

@Evan finishing up some performance charts for the 4C. 16C is ready to start the process as well.
