Please can you advice what I´m doing wrong?

During the last months I have bought hardware for my new server. CPU, motherboard and memory used on eBay. CPU cooler and chassis are new.

Here is what I got used from eBay:
- Intel Xeon E5-2650L V4 (marked confidential)
- Supermicro X10SRH-CLN4F Server Motherboard LGA 2011-3
- 2x32 GB modules MTA72ASS4G72LZ-2G1A1HG Micron 32GB PC4-17000 DDR4-2133MHz ECC Registered CL15 288-Pin Load Reduced DIMM 1.2V Quad Rank Memory Module

And bought new:
- Supermicro CSE-745BTQ-R1K28B-SQ
- Noctua NH-U9DX i4

During boot it fails with "System Initializing - B7". I know the error code is memory related but I do not have access to other memory modules to verify it.

Instead I decided to buy a new memory module which is supported by Supermicro. I bought 1x32 GB HMA84GR7MFR4N-TF Supermicro 32GB 288-Pin DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Server Memory (MEM-DR432L-HL01-ER21)

But still same B7 error message....

This is getting very expensive for me. I now have 3x32 GB memory modules which I cannot use. But only option I can think about is to continue buying different memory modules until I get something which works...

What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have experience with memory supported by the X10SRH-CLN4F motherboard?

Of course I could have bought everything from new. But that would have doubled or tripled the price as hardware is very expensive where I live (Denmark).

I suspect that the BIOS version is too old to support my E5-2650L V4 CPU. Supermicro suggests to test with a E5-2600 V3 CPU.

Unfortunately I do not have access to a E5-2600 V3 CPU. Have to buy one....

Unfortunately I do not have access to IPMI.

The company I bought it from on eBay do not know the IP address for IPMI. And since the server will not boot then I cannot get access to update the BIOS.

Maybe you can borrow one? Or get a cheap one on Ebay and resell...

I have tried Wireshark, Avanced IP scanner and Ethereal. But could not find the IP address for IPMI.

Tried from my Ubnt EdgeRouter Lite and could only find this:

fe80::225:90ff:fefe:c735 dev eth0 lladdr 00:25:90:fe:c7:35 STALE

The mac address is correct. But I don´t know if I can connect to the IPV6 address.

With Supermicro boards if you plugin a monitor to the via port, The IP address is displayed on the screen during startup. Is that not happening?

Finally I got the IP address using Ethereal.

Got a logon prompt for IPMI. But of course the reseller had changed the default username / password.... ADMIN / ADMIN do not work.

At least I know that IPMI is working. But looks like I have to buy a V3 CPU.

hey! what was the end of your story?
i have a feeling that i have your mainboard on hands now :(
https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/ipmi-reset-to-default.23663/

exactly the same X10SRH-CLN4F, also bought used on ebay.
also unknown ipmi ip and login/pass.
also the same B7 code using correct memory MTA9ASF51272PZ-2G3B1 and e5-1630v4 cpu.

did you get the v3 cpu? get it to work?
or have you returned the mainboard to the seller... and then i bought it and having the same issues now :(

i also live outside the US and buying something from there is pretty painful and slow.
already bought a cheapest v3 that i could find, but it's not arrived yet.
meanwhile i also thinking about buying different memory module in case all 4 of the dimm's i have are faulty or incompatible.

have you bought your board from this seller?

Hi All, This may be a little late. Did you try searching resetting your ipmi passwords to factory defaults on a search engine. I did, and found the solution. Heads up, it involves Supermicro's ipmi tool, booting into FreeDos and running a command which resets everything to factory defaults, ie ADMIN/ADMIN for older boards, and ADMIN AND password printed on a tiny sticker on the motherboard. Later, Don.
