The SuperMicro X10SDV-7TP4F ships with an onboard LSI-2116.

I've never worked with an HBA or a DAS before, so I'm may be doing this wrong, but here's what I want to do:

Hook up the 4 internal SFF-8643 ports to this Quad External MINI SAS HD SFF-8644 to Internal MINI SAS HD SFF-8643 12G Adapters.

Then, use this 10Gtek External Mini SAS HD SFF-8644 to Mini SAS SFF-8088 Hybrid Cable to connect to a Lenovo SA-120.

I called Supermicro and was told that the LSI-2116 ships in IT mode, meaning (I assume) that it's capable of managing up to 512 drives. Does anyone know it this is correct?

I just want to know, will this work?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Cheers.

This may be the answer to a problem of mine. Did you go this route or get any feedback on it?

This should work. I am not using an SA 120 but am using a similar setup. X10SDV-4C-7TP4F 8644 -> Silverstone 8643 to 8088 adapter -> monoprice 8088 cable -> supermicro internal to external adapter -> Supermicro 826 expander backplane.

Did you ever get this working? I'm looking into a similar setup.
