Hello,

I have this motherboard since maybe 2 years.
I never encounter issued with it.
Recently, I lost all my network communication with the server (I'm using vsphere on it) and after restart, vsphere is saying "I don't find any network card".
After rebooting several time the host, it works again.
Today, the issue is again here but I can't solve it with restart.
I added an external PCI-E network card to solve it but my 2x10Gb on the motherboard are not anymore detected.
On the BIOS, I don't see them (and I don't know where I should...)
On the IPMI, I can see :
System LAN1 MAC Address : 00:00:00:00:00:00 and the same for LAN2.
I'm using BIOS version 3.4a and IPMI 03.91

Do you have an idea ?

Thanks for your help

Hello,

Thanks for your answer.
I updated my vsphere ESX to the latest build and after it, on the IPMI web interface, both NIC have the correct MAC address.
I don't understand the resolution here...
I did severall restart server (from ESX) or shutdown -> unplug cable -> power on server but it didn't solve it.

What is NIC overheating ?
Too hot ?
The nic are ok based on what IPMI sensor says

My IPMI interface was configured on Shared mode, I tried dedicated or failover but same issue.

maybe you allowed to POST before BMC ready ?
normal reboot will solve that after AC loss.

yes, the chip leaves without notice. reset required to resume.
I tried to reset the bios to optimized settings too but was not better.

To be honest, I don't understand exactly what make this works...

Reset the IPMI could be a solution for next time ?
I had this issue maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago... I will keep an eye on it and I will see when the issue appears again (if it appear).
I would like to know why and how to solve it more than just randomly solved xD.
Because now yes on IPMI I can see both MAC addresse on the "System" page and also on the "Hardware information" -> LAN -> Onboard .

no but the BIOS POST synch info with BMC on startup.
if BIOS does not nee MAC it reports same 00 00 00... to BMC and BMC shows that.
BMC LAN is owned by BMC, MAC always correct. shared/failover doesn't matter 10G NICs.
and of course, silcon can get defective. maybe a sign sometime it will left and not come back.

OK so it seems it's not BMC related but BIOS POST related because it's his job to transmit this information ok !
Is it normal the issue is with both NIC ? There is only one "network controller" for both NIC ?
If the issue appears again, I think I will use an external NIC on PCI slot...
Is it possible to "disable" embedeed LAN ? if yes, where it is ? Because on the BIOS, to be honest, I don't find a lot of settings related to NIC except to allow PXE boot
