Supermicro Powersupplys "PWS"

until recently i did not realize there were different kind of SM 1HE Rackmont Powersupplys

on the Top is a PWS-1k41P-1R with a 1+11(top) and 1+8 (buttom) contacts count on the 60,6mm wide PCB
from my SC847E26-RJBOD1 chassis.

and here we have a PWS-801-1R with 4+9 (top) and 4+8(buttom) contacts on the 50mm wide PCB.


I am looking to replace the 800W powersupply because of the Noise. But i am worried that it will not fit.
I have a SM 836TQ-R800 chassis

Can i replace the 800W Powersupply with the PWS-920P-SQ?? Are they (920P-SQ and 801-1R) compatible? or do revisions exist? If so, how can i determine what versions are compatible?

You will need to find out which PDB your Box has, that decides which PSUs its compatible with.
Else you'll need a new PDB and a new PSU if you want to use a non-compatible one.

AFAIK, the PDBs come in 2 widths - 19 pair (Narrow) and 23 pair (wide).

Wide PDBs are compatible with both PSUs.

Some of the Older revs of the PDBs have only one 8 pin EPS connector for CPUs. Also, 20pin ATX connectors. Last 2 digits of the PDB name indicates whether it's 20/24 pin connector.

920SQ and below PWS should have narrow edge connector and compatible with both PDBs. I believe pws-1k21p-1r also has the narrow connector. 501p-1r, 721p-1r, 741p-1r, 801-1r etc should all be compatible. Check the size on Supermicro powersupply matrix on their web site.

pws-1k28p-sq, 1k41p-r, 1k62p-1r have a wide connector.
