Looking for above board or a 2066 Xeon capable alternative for cheaper than new ;)

Picked up a cpu and want to see what the power usage is compared to my E3/E5 systems

FWIW, I've been looking for a used x11srm-vf for a few months on ebay. One came up via auction last month for around USD220/230 (can't remember exactly).

Given that you can get a new one for USD299 at wiredzone with the updated vrm to run the higher power 2066 CPUs, I reasoned that the $80-70 savings was not worth it.

Thanks,
didnt even know that the older ones can't run the newer CPUs...

Never looked much into 2066 until I was the only bidder on that CPU;)

The w-21xx parts are the way to go right now. Hopefully, the w-22xx parts will start to be offloaded later this year and bring prices down.

In all, the lga2066 socket seems not to be the most popular Intel has had so the second-hand market is not as bountiful.

HI

Please be aware that some, (maybe all) early Supermicro C422 motherboards will require a Bios and VRM update to work with Xeon W-22XX CPU’s.

From

X11SRM-VF | Motherboards | Products | Super Micro Computer, Inc.

Note: To support 165W W-2200 CPUs, BIOS 2.0 & VRM update by Supermicro are required.

I sent two unused X11SRA-F/C422 motherboards back to Supermicro Support Europe last year for this modification.

These were mid - 2019. Rev 1.02 boards.

Supermicro upgraded the VRM’s on these boards to allow operation at 165W for the W-22XX processors.

Supermicro do not offer cross-shipment. The boards I sent were returned in 2 weeks.

The hardware update was introduced in December 2019, any board received with a serial starting with XX20…. (XX can be NN VM etc.) will already have the updates.

While waiting for the W-22XX series to be become economically available, I fitted one unit with a Xeon W-2140b iMac Pro CPU & 128GB - 2133 PC4 memory this unit is running in the next office.

At idle with W10 on a Toshiba XG6 NVME drive, CX354A Pro Nic, P600 video card and no other disks, this unit uses 60-65W.

I hope this helps.

Take Care

Thanks, thats not too bad.
Looking to upgrade my vsan nodes (with 1220v6) to a bit more base clock, but with 1270v6 still around €200 it looked interesting to give the 2133 a shot.
Getting a cheaper board would have been nice, but I assume its better to get a new on in this instance.

Thanks
