Just bought a used supermicro server off ebay and having some IPMI issues.
Normally After you give it ip address, it would immediately reachable via http/https, but this particular system is not even listening on port 80 or 443.

I tried adding the new server to ipmiview and it works, but still no http/https. So i've updated the ipmi firmware to the latest version available from supermicro, reboot and still no http/https.

Does anyone here knows how to enable http/https on supermicro IPMI ?

Thanks

In BIOS

You can enable/disable IPMI.

You can also set custom IP, etc..

Another thing you could try is to reset to factory defaults with IPMICFG.
Hint: You can try searching the forums about this tool, for ideas on how to solve your problem.

spent all morning troubleshooting this, first I tried updating firmware using the ipmi tool and got nothing.
Then I tried updating firmware using ipmicfg from dos and again nothing.

The next thing I did was using windows ipmi flash tools (rwin64flsh.exe) and WOOT WOOT it works.
Not sure whats going on but I am glad this is fix. Servers running memtest right now before it will get shipped off to colo.

Thanks all.

I normally find that a BMC reset cures all known ills (ipmicfg -r i think). All the ones I have had so far anyway!

Also I strongly recommend you force it to use the dedicated IPMI port instead of sharing the 1st 1G mobo port or letting it "fail over" because it can be a royal pain when it fails over to the shared port because there is no link on the IPMI port for some reason and it never fails back until you cold reset the BMC or power cycle the whole box.

Anyway, for some reason today most of my supermicro system ipmi is not responsive at all. This applies for both system running linux or windows or even esxi. I can load the console redirect and do get a screen, but it seems like there's almost a minute delay before whatever I press on my keyboard get send to the console. I am curious if somehow my java got updated or something because I did not remember it to be this way.
I've updated all the server ipmi to the latest code but it did not solve the problem.

Do you guys think this issue is java related ? My desktop is running win 8.1 with java 6 update 55 right now. Is there like a good known java version that works well with ipmi console redirect ?

I tried ipmiview apps and the result are pretty much the same for the keyboard delay, however mouse movement slightly improved.

Thanks,

Does a BMC cold reset improve things? It sounds more like a networking issue, like the connection goes down and then recovers with that massive of a delay.
I am using IPMIView 2.0 (V2.9.30 build 140317) with Java 1.6.0_35 on Win 7 right now talking to X8, X9 and X10 boards and it has been fine.

I thought it was network issue too in the beginning, but network is solid, no ping drops or anything.
Cold booting bmc doesn't help in my case. When I am back from my trip, I will try that java version and see if it works better.

Thanks

The arse end of the planet
"Anyway", If the webpage is not starting, then Java isn't the issue. If it was then you would see bad Java messages. Are you trying to get to the IPMI from a local machine on the inside of the remote network to confirm port 80/443 are valid ports inside that network?

Actually I have no issue getting the console page to appear via web browser or ipmiview, only that I am not able to do anything with the console.
Mouse is super slow, and the keyboard press even with the virtual keyboard takes a good 30 seconds before it is send to the server, and I am not exaggerating. I emailed supermicro and they are telling me in their lab, they used the latest java and it works just fine.
