Amazing find for those in EU. I've never seen it this low here.

Price went up to €29.99. Does eBay do this automatically if it's "more likely get sales" than in the past or something?

EDIT: both seem to be the rev 3.1 TQ models so a wild guess is that it's just a trick to make more money out of it.
Anyway, i'm not gonna touch this since there will be a cable hell using these instead of 846A which i have in mine 846 chassis.
I have TQ in my 826, i feel it blocks part of air path from disks to the fans.

Hm interesting - can't imagine they did that manually on a Sunday.

And o/c, -A is better than TQ but thats preferable to a SAS1 model.
I think of this as a cheap way to upgrade a SAS1 model, 20 (30) bucks + a newer PDB maybe and u are all set vs a much more expensively sold -A/-SAS2.
Also - while the many cables are messy - you can individually assign drive slots to cards/onboard sata ports which you can't with SAS2 and only in blocks of 4 on -A.

Agree with your points. The last point is a good one really. I'm planning how to connect one of the 846A to the disks and i figured it out quickly, it's not that easy, since it's 4 x 6 ports.
Will a SAS2 breakout cable work without issues in "reverse" order? I.e 4 SATA ports on MB on one side and a mini SAS2 connector to the backplane.
I think i have enough HBA ports, but just wondering :)

Works fine i did the same on my A Backplanes to use the Onboard SATA Ports.

The buyer raised his price to 39.99 euro, I still bought one.
6 left, better hurry!

Above points are valid, this is obviously not as good as getting a SAS2 backplane, but at the usual price of around 500 euro (not even counting shipping from the US and taxes on top of that), this is at least a half decent "upgrade".

Gotta find me some good quality long breakout cables for these now, anyone got a cheap link for those? :D
Also, what is a good HBA for these that will run in IT mode for freenas?
LSI 9211-8i is nice but can only connect 8 HD's, don't have 3 PCI slots free.

If you want to connect THIS Backplane (TQ) to a HBA you do not need the Reverse breakout cable!

So just look for a SFF-8087 to SATA.

oooh nice, good tip Kybber!
now to find a pcb that I can mount in my case so this does not take up a PCI slot

edit: :( expander is only 3G
edit2: Intel RES2SV240 is the one we want, only 20 ports but w/e, everyone has at least 6 sata ports on their mobo anyway

Be aware that the HP only does SAS 6Gb/s and SATA 3Gbs/ - if I read the other threads correctly

Yup, I saw that too, bummer, but the Intel RES2SV240 does 6G, albeit with "only" 20 ports.

Sorry about that. I only have SAS drives, so not bitten by the 3G limitation. Perhaps you can single-link the RES2SV240 for 20 ports and complete with the remaining 4 ports directly from your 9211-8i?
