Hello,

I have a Supermicro 846 chassis which will have a SAS3 backplane (BPN-SAS3-846EL1). I am considering H12SSL motherboard and trying to decide between H12SSL-i and H12SSL-NT. I see the latter has a slimline SAS connector. Can I connect this SAS connector to the SAS3 backplane instead of using an HBA?

Also is it possible to breakout this connector to SATA cable if i decide to go that route?

Thanks

Doesn't support SAS, so you will still need an HBA. Only SATA or NVMe.

CBL-SAST-0827 for SATA, though you don't need to use Supermicro parts for that. NVMe will depend on what you need on the other end.

The H12SSL-C / H12SSL-CT have a SAS controller, however I believe it is in RAID mode, though I suspect it must be possible to switch it to IT mode.
