Hello,

I would like to have two additional drives in my Supermicro 846 chassis. It is an OEM version and carries a sticker saying 'Factory code: ABC-02'. The back of the chassis looks like the photo below from this thread. The internal photo of the chassis is at the bottom.

a) Can i install the kit in this chassis?

b ) There are two versions i have found on the internet. Which amongst the two i need to buy,

- MCP-220-84606-0N
- MCP-220-84610-0N

The internal of the chassis looks like this,

Yes, this version was originally designed for the rear optical drive. You however might be able to get a 2 drive internal carrier with it, you just might not have cabling from your power supply/distribution designed to reach it (I have mine with the optical drive).

There is also the internal 2.5" drive tray, Supermicro MCP-220-84603-0N:

However looking closer at yours, you may already have one installed. I heard rumors of some people installing two of these, but I have not seen it personally.

That's the newer revision (or "B" generation). Original one did not have vent holes next to the power supplies and the cutout was smaller than the height of the power supplies. It supports the rear dual 2.5" hot-swap option.
