Just saw this post in LowEndTalk here: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/184309/hardware-sale-supermicro-8-node-microcloud-servers
Haven't been pricing these so not sure how big of a deal it is (if at all), but I thought I would post it just in case.

1x 3U SuperServer 5037MR-H8TRF (8 NODES)
16x 16GB DIMMS (256GB total)
8x E5-1650V2
1x 10GB SFP+ (option of AOC-CTG-I1S or MCX311A-XCAT for this)
1x RAIL KIT
Updated FW/BIOS/IPMI
90 Day Warranty

Looks like they will ship for free anywhere in the US where there is a shipping dock.

For the decent deals you get them 1-2 gens newer at this price.
Tho they are generaly without sfp+ these are usualy at 400-500$ area.

But personally im not a fan of this formfactor compared to the slightly deeper 12nodes tho, with 2x3.5 or 4x2.5 non-hotswap per node that can be mixed.

If it was v3/4 would be a better deal.
It's tempting but with performance and everything of other systems. We got some 2U 4 node amd systems for $2200 granted that was just the barebones but still worked out to like $550 per node which was quite a deal.

By the price and amd id guess HPE Apollo?
The apollo 2000 series stuff like r2600 gen10plus + 4x xl225n should be roughly that price.

i dont understand why we still dont see more 2U4N stuff in labs yet with how you can get decent barebones under 100$ per.
There is so much stuff like these vxrail T41S-2U with chassis + all 4 ddr4/v4 nodes included that you can grab at 300-400$ offers.

That one even has the caddies and satadom included.
How many we still see buying 4x standard 2U boxes with a spec that could fit in a 2U4N box using 100-200w less and costing less.

Nope the ones I bought are just barebones for our 7443P offerings to customers.
They support 2x m.2 and 4x U.2 drives per node. Just made more sense to buy those vs the $550 per motherboard we had been buying from SM. Or the $1800 for 12x U.2 options we had also been buying.

In terms of older generation E5's v3/4 these types of deals are great options depending on the requirements. As a hosting provider customer often require 2x10g ports and at least 2x nvme drive options. Some of the older Quanta gear worked great for this but the problem now is the price is super low but no one has rails or other parts needed and it ends up being a pain. We can't buy systems without rails as it makes it hard to do even when using third party shelves it messes up the RU amounts.

For production i would not have bought them indeed when it comes to mounting and parts.

In a lab setting with less value on rackspace i just use old L shaped profiles from netapp etc shelves i slide them onto and lose the 1/3 of a U that takes.

HPE gen9 apollo (E5 v3/v4) stuff pops up with sas3 + 25/40/100 nics now and then in the 80-120$/node area.
Same with dell and supermicro stuff, but those are alot rarer with nics beyond the dual sfp+ standard dell nodes got.

All deals are negotiable. It's worth depends on the final price, how many you want to buy and how valueble the extras are for the buyer - memory, CPUs, NICs and shipping.

For comparison, you can buy a single 5037MR-H8TRF CTO without shipping on ebay for $600. Dual gigabit NICs (standard option).
That's $75 per server node.

Maximum reasonable config you can have on these nodes are E5-2695 v2 (12 cores @ 2.4Ghz) with 4x32GB LRDIMM.
There are dual SFP+ NICs in the microlp slot as an option (AOC-CTG-i2S) and then you can run a 2xM.2 NVMe card in the PCIe slot.
The drive bays support both 3.5" and 2.5" SATA drives by default.

This has 8 nodes, that's $118.75 per node

Mind sharing what platform? 4 node EPYC 7002/7003 at that pricing for barebones sounds very attractive on the home lab side.

Sadly price is now up to 2800+ for these.
Newegg had them Asus I believe the barebone was don't have exact details on the model on me at the moment just shipped a few more of them to our data center the other day.

Yes it's not a horrible price by any means. But in terms of renting to customers it's not a great option sadly as even E5 v3 is starting to get dated on VMware which a lot of labs and customers want to use for these.
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense
