I bought a used SuperChassis 826BE1C-R609JBOD on eBay and I'm trying to quiet it down, I bought the 920SQ PSUs, and now I'm dealing with the fans.

I bought three Supermicro 80mm Hot-Swappable Middle Axial Fan (FAN-0074L4) to replace the stock Supermicro 80mm Hot-Swappable Middle Axial Fan (FAN-0126L4)

These do not just slide in as a replacement, and you cannot case swap them (there is a finger hold that doesn't allow swap to work).

Does anyone have a fix or a suggestion to getting the quiet replacements in?

It's pretty common to cut off that finger pull bit of plastic to swap fans on the white carriers, many people use a dremel, but I knocked mine out extra quickly with a bandsaw.

Just remove the fan from one bracket and put it in the other? No need to cut anything up.

I guess Dremel it is then. Supermicro's photos certainly do not make that obvious and most of their fans are not like that last I checked.

Took out a razor blade made some precuts and then nibbed away at it until I got the finger hold removed.

Fits great minus needing to cut it, wear eye protection when cutting, this plastic goes everywhere!

That's the newest jbod Version of the 826, with more efficient psus and the third Gen jbod Board that Supports ipmi and Fan Control via pwm. Not Sure why Fan modding is required...
I’m doing it because it lives in a place I’ll be able to hear it.

Get a small pryer like the one doing mobile phone and muck around, Im pretty sure I was able to take all of the fans out of their white casing for cleaning before. I owned several Super 8x6 8x7 case and I think all of them can be done.

The plastic on the used fans I have purchased is pretty brittle. I just used a pair of diagonal cutters to make a cut at each end of the tab, and it broke right out.
