Nice, with fan replacement it can be silent then!
And the power figures are not bad for a full 10G switch. I will wait for then to become more widespread and purchase one...

Just finished installing it

wont be doing the optics for a few weeks as its a big job pulling the house apart to run them under the floor

out of curiosity i fitted my XikeStor SKS1200-8GPY2XF with a 10Gbps SFP+ to RJ45 Module
10Gbps seems stable on Cat5 to it about a 30M run wasnt expecting it tbh as the cable goes through a huge electricity trunk with about 30 cables going to the fusebox

A few notes about the switch after i have been using it for a short while

The PWM Fan Header isnt a standard PC header with a different plastic retainer
you cannot just force a PC Plug into the motherboard pins

PC PWM Header

PWM = Blue
Tach = Yellow
+12V = Red
Ground = Black

Switch PWM Header

PWM = Blue
Tach = Yellow
Ground = Black
+12V = Re
d

The Colours are correct and you just match when making a cable
Blue to Blue
Yellow to Yellow
Red to Red
Black to Black

you have to make a Switch PWM Header to PC PWM extension to fix the reversed pinout of 12V+Ground on the motherboard

Header1.jpg

Temps with this switch running with the noctua fan in its final position
its cooler running below the server
rather than sitting above the server on the printer whilst i set it up for temp testing(shocker right..)

The HRUI HR510S-8T4XS Labeling on the shell states (Parent Device)

1-8 Port
10G Link = Green
100M/1G/2.5G Link = Orange

9-12 Port
10G Link = Green
1G/2.5G Link = Orange

The Horaco ZS-SWTGW2C48NS (4+8) Labeling on the shell states (We dont have pictures of the Horaco 8+4)
1-8 Port
10G Link = Green
100M/1G/2.5G/5G Link = Orange

9-12 Port
10G Link = Blue
1G/2.5G Link = Green
Which is consistent of the HRUI HR-SWTGW2C48NS Parent Switch

The SunSoont SST-MTG8T4XS Labeling on the shell states
10G Link = Green
100/1000M Link = Orange

SFP+ You can operate in
10G/1000M or 10G/2500M its a setting on the port in the firmware
this is a per switch setting not per port so it either operates in
10G/1000M or 10G/2500M im never going to buy 1G nevermind 2.5G Modules so who
cares what its set at..

2.5G SFP+.png

The RJ45 Ports the 2 x Realtek RTL8264B support 100M/1000M/2500M/5000M/10G
Which will be Auto Negotiated or can be forced at the firmware level

RJ45.png

They Fail to Mention 5G in the 8+4 Parent or Variants for some reason
They Mention 5G Support in the 4+8 Variants

5G works 100% Fine my main desktop is RTL8126 5G

iperf3
full linerate

Switch Port 3 i9-9900KS AQC113C PCIE 3.0 x2
Switch Port 4 i9-12900K AQC113 PCIE 3.0 x4
9K Frames Payload 9.91 Gbits/sec
1.5K Frames Payload 9.49 Gbits/sec

I could post 5G and 2.5G numbers but suffice to say the device is just fine at full linerate
just 1/2 or 1/4 the numbers for results..

haha i just tried getting a firmware update out of Horaco
no dice
im going to have to wait for someone to buy one and request an update

"We just released it yesterday.There is no sale for now. If you have order on another account,please consult it via that account.Sorry for this inconvenience"

Did manage to pry out of them the shipping firmware build though

Horaco Firmware
Firmware Version 1.1.1.35

SunSoont Firmware
Firmware Version 1.1.1.31
Firmware Date Jan 10 2025 - 07:21:26

In the end i explained to Horaco i have a variant and was just curious if i could get a firmware update out of them
they asked for an e-mail address
i provided them with horaco@mydomain and got an e-mail about 30 mins later from hongrui asking if it was the poe variant..

Further update
I just spoke to Sunsoont and said Horaco and GoodTop are shipping with 1.1.1.35
he is e-mailing me the latest firmware
i expect i will get an e-mail like below from hongrui soon for sunsoont@mydomain

he also said if i can get a better price from horaco or goodtop its fine to buy from them
and they are in the same building 2nd floor and sunsoont is on 4th floor

he also said the SunSoont variant is shipping with the quieter fan now
i presume hrui ship all variants with the quieter fan now

was quite an interesting chat

I have just been supplied with the latest 1.1.1.35 firmware by Hongrui/Sunsoont

It should work on the horaco + goodtop devices but i cant know for sure
they will be shipping with this firmware anyway
but providing just incase

It fixes the force x speed save and reboot not surviving reboot
that i noticed on 1.1.1.31
no idea what else is new/fixed

2a.png1.png3a.png4.png5.png

I also had a reply from horaco asking about the quieter fan (thats why they delayed releasing it)
tbh it sounded pretty much the same as the fan my sunsoont came with its hard to tell not in person

they sent me a video
the noctua is alot quieter

if you get one put a noctua in it

Couldn't find any of the 8-TX 4-SFP+ versions on the amazons, and the prices on aliexpress were a little more than I wanted to drop, but I did find the Sodola equivalent (SL-SWTGW2C48NS) of the 4-TX 8-SFP+ version on the amazons for a reasonable price, so it arrived yesterday. Appreciate the comments here about the cooling fan noise, I had some older Noctua A4x20PWM fans available (different wire color scheme!) and I mapped the pinouts with a voltmeter to be sure I was correct before cutting and scotchlocking wires. Definitely a much quieter switch with the new fan, thank you for the recommendation on that!

The trick with aliexpress is to use codes
The Goodtop variant of the 8+4 is £190 with codes atm ($242us)
then 10% cashback in a few days

I think i paid £168 for the sunsoont from alibaba

4+8 is still a good choice though its the same platform just one less RTL8264B for RJ45 Ports

what firmware did it come with 1.1.1.??

I'll have to boot the thing up and look, didn't check when I first did the fan mod. I've got a fair amount of 10G-SR SFPs so it won't be an issue filling the SFP ports with connections.

Looks like I got 1.1.1.34.

Edit to add: Anyone got a copy of the Realtek MIB referenced at enterprises.27282?
