A year and a half ago I built my first NAS on an 8-bay R510 with an H200 flashed to IT mode, running SnapRAID and Drivepool. It has worked great so far. My backup server, an HP N40L microserver, recently took a dump, so I'm looking to upgrade. I thought I might go for a 12 bay R510 now. Not sure which card to get with it though. I have a spare H200 that's flashed, but I'm not sure if it supports more than 8 drives, or if I need another solution.

I also plan to use the two internal SSD slots down the road, FWIW.

Sorry if this is a bit late but the H200 should be fine.

Mine has a Dell 03J8FW PERC H200 Raid PCI-E SAS 6GB/S Internal Controller 3J8FW.
LSPCI :02:00.0 Serial Attached SCSI controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS2008 PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS-2 [Falcon] (rev 03)

2 x SSD's + 8 x 12TB Ironwolfs (4 spare bays) All working fine with Proxmox and ZFS.

Original cables fit without mods. Not speed tested, but fine as a file server
