Hi everyone,

I am looking for a relatively quiet rack mountable 24 (or more) x 10 GbE Interfaces switch to install in my office.

I have some servers in a passive rack and I am planning to migrate this rack to 10 GbE (copper or fibre).

In our DC's we use Cisco Nexus 30xx, however they are really loud.

I also would like to keep the Cisco switches, and have considered the Catalyst 9300. The noise level specifications for this switch is:

LpA: 45dB typical, 48 dB max
LwA: 5.6B typical, 5.9B max

However, I do not believe this is the loudest this switch can be. Does anyone have experience with this? How is it comparable to the Nexus or the Catalyst 2900? This would be a good reference for me.

Thank you!

With 24 10G ports? There are none that are quiet.

This is a 16-port with a silent mod:
10G Switch - Ubiquiti ES-16-XG - Fluisterstil met Silent Kit | Uptimed®

Or look at the Mikrotik, which is silent below 40C, but it hits 40C pretty quick and fans turn on, still not too loud.
16-Port 10G Switch nu € 289 - MikroTik CRS317-1G-16S+RM | Uptimed®

Also this Mikrotik model is coming in a 32 port variant soon.

Unfortunately this is all fiber stuff, i think your best bet for a relatively silent one would be the netgear XS728T:
10-Gigabit Smart Managed Switch Series - XS728T | Smart-managed switches | Switches | Producten | Zakelijk | NETGEAR

It's 28 port Copper 10G.

We have some 16 port Mellanox SN2100's that are 100Gbps but with DAC Breakout cables turns into a 64 port 25Gbps switch. 25Gbps is backwards compatible with 10Gbps and Mellanox doesn't vendor lock their SFPs/QSFPs. When you turn it on for the first time it is pretty loud, however, after it boots up it quiets down pretty well, especially for a TOR switch. Other nice thing about the 2100s is they are 1/2 width do you can get the rack mount for them and have your redundant switches taking up only 1U of space.

/me imagines the cable nightmare of 32x breakout cables in 1u... *facepalm*

Sounds interesting though :)

Thats just a 1G switch with a couple of 10G ports, not hard to find fanless.

This thread is about 10G switches with at least 8, 12 or 24 10g ports.
